SnowDrifter Posted March 19, 2013 Report Posted March 19, 2013 Been reading around on safe handling of methanol in a closed environment and it turns out even a respirator doesn't do much... The stuff doesn't have a smell, so it's not exactly like I can tell if it's coming through my cartridges or not like I can with fiberglass resin. Then you have isopropyl alcohol, which is metabolized into acetone. That doesn't sound too great either. Which leaves ethanol, which is found in alcoholic drinks. And since lab grade ethanol isn't sold out to the general public, I figured vodka, which is ethanol and water, would be my next best bet. So... Has anyone used vodka as a surface prep to remove oils? Does it leave any sort of residue behind? I'm really just looking for something that's safe - something that I can soak a cloth in and wipe away without worrying about poisoning(methanol) or burning my nose and lungs to all hell(isopropyl) Oh... And the symptoms of methanol poisoning are very similar do a disorder called POTS that I have. So even if I was exposed, I wouldn't know it until damage had already been done. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
