corona_jeff
So, this must be one of those SPL increasing tricks - - - Truck must have been louder when one back door is deadened (awesomely) and the other is not at all? :rofl2: :rofl2: :trippy: Total mind-blower....lol This acts as a parametric pressure release system. Or someone got lazy.

pstone11
OK, Guess I can do a short on how these kicks were put together - I normally do a nice smooth factory look with maybe a component set or just a little driver but these needed to be a little bit better, larger (of course) and stronger so they were built much different. I showed earlier how I just extended the floors of the kicks out, fitted the rings and then trimmed the floors down smooth. After that, I drilled 1/4" holes through the mating surface and glassed through to the back of the kick to ensure the glass wouldn't peel off of the plastic kick when I was stretching fabric over it and tossing it all over the shop. This is where the different approach starts. If I wanted to go all smooth and factory looking I would have stretched fleece over the entire kick then molded and contoured it into something that resembled factory but that wasn't going to work with the angle of the rings on these. So, I cut a slot in the kick like so: Then started to wrap.... I used the slot to pull the fleece through so my mating surface would be strong, tight and easier to form. Once I was sure there weren't any wrinkles or whacky stretch issues going on, I could glue the fleece down for good. So, the fleece on the back is trimmed and glued - Pic next to the other one that I did the day before (ran out of glass.....) Did a little bit of re-enforcement on the back to seal up the rest of the cut and tidy it all up. Now they are just hanging out, getting a couple layers on the inside and some outside smoothing. Should be on to sanding tomorrow or so if all goes well this afternoon.... Check out StoneSounds to see my recent builds.Or look at the Flying White Facebook Page!
