Sub up - port back design help

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on designing (through Torres) and building a sub up port back config. for a single Alpine Type R 15 in my Jeep Cherokee (SUV).

My first of a few questions...
Should I stack the port instead of having it bend in an L-shape? example:

Thanks in advance!

Good question dude, are you doing a single baffle or double? I know one benefit of a L-port is the added structural support, but not sure on the stacked port

I was planning on a single baffle but with bracing dowels for support. I played around with numbers for a double baffle so it's not completely out of the question, but this will be a low power setup, only 300 watts :(

Obviously woofer position will be important in my design too. Where am I best to place the woofer? Far from the port stack or right next to it? Would love to learn more on avoiding having the sub unload into the port

What size and tuning on the box?

Run it across the back in the L shape. Having a single 90" bend will me more efficient than several 180" bends

Never tried it any other way than L port, but have had awesome luck with L ports. If you round over the angle on the L and the outside of it, and make sure the port is the same width throughout the port you will help the efficiency and airflow of the box out.

Thanks everybody. Aiming for 3.5 cubes net tuned to 35 with nearly 14in2 of port per foot.

Will I have any loading issues placing the sub as far away as possible from the port on the top baffle? That is the only way my dimensions will work I believe. Like this crude sketch:

OR am I better off placing the sub in the middle of the box? or over/behind the port walls?
