Subs In A Trunk Of A Car, No Wall? How Loud Can They Get?

Recommended Posts

Damn. So that's what 149ish DB sub in trunk material looks like.

I guess my 99' Camry XLe v6 and I have no chance of hitting 147 db's with only 1 15'' Fi BTL @ 3000 watt :(

I was planning on spending 2,500$ onto my next system upgrade for the Camry, but now I think I'm just going to stick with my weak sauce 600 watt SQ subs until I find money to get myself a larger vehicle.

I am guessing I'll only hit ~140db if I go with the 1 15'' Fi BTL sub in my Camry Trunk.

Can 140db on music vibrate the window's of people's homes? I've never heard 140db+ in person before so I don't know what it's like.

I wish there were sound audio competitions in Portland Oregon.

if i can get into the 140's with two 10" sound qualityish subs with 1200watts, then u are probably close, if not there. i would think a btl could get in the 140s!

i likes me some audio stuff...

I believe the loudest from a trunk car is 153.6.. could be wrong though

I don't know his name but maybe one of you guys would..

I met a guy down at Sound Solutionz who had driven there to pick up something from Rusty..

He had two 15's and either 2 or 3 Soundstream XXX6500D's in a blowthrough where the back seats were, I don't know his best numbers but he had a newer, gold, 4 door civic with big DB Drag and Bass Race decals on the back window, he said he bass races 149.9, he had a loud ass car let me tell you that.

i have a 93 accord coupe with two memphis PR 15s in the trunk... due to living in a small town in southern indiana i dont have a way to get metered. i do have a question for you tho amatt... you have your subs forward and port forward. i noticed that in your thread and tried it. my flexing went away, just by ear it sounded considerably quieter. so theyre subs back port back again. whats your opinion on the sub and port placement and its effect on the overall numbers that is put up?

How big is your box?

amatt85's box is 5cft (I believe) for 2 SE 10's and he puts up decent numbers but thats as much air as I'm running for my 4 CVR 12's sealed...so it's kinda "big" for 2 10's, even ported...but as boxes go...AIRSPACE +port+POWER=loud...regardless of woofer size/number (In general...not the magic formula you still gotta design well)....

So I guess what I'm sayin is maybe you just gotta give up ur whole trunk like most LOUD trunk cars do.

The guy I mentioned doin over 150 from his trunk had a box that was THE ENTIRE trunk. Barely room for amps.

^^

yea, my box is around 5 cubes net....which is too big for those 10's, but i just really dont feel like re-building it. and if my box was 1/8" bigger in any direction, it would not fit in the trunk...i had to literally kick the shit out of this box for a few minutes before it finally slid into place...i really think i could get about another 4 cubes out of the trunk if i built inside and glassed the spare tire well...so 9-10cubes MAX!

Man, metering in a trunk car is definately an uphill battle, it makes me appreciate my SUV even more. If you can do it, why not do a mini-wall, like I have seen alot of guys do (meade's original civic build)? It seems like it would make it alot easier, and you still have the option of folding up the rear setas if you need the extra room.

My System:

Pioneer AVH-P3200BT

4-Dayton 7 inch reference series (front doors)

8-Onkyo 3/4 inch tweeters (dash)

1-Sundown Audio 100.4D (mids/highs)

2-18" BTL's (for now)

Crescendo 3kwp (for sale)

Complete rebuild coming soon...

amatt, my box is 35" wide so it wouldnt sit up all the way. not to mention that its too tall. there was about a foot from the subs to the back seat. it wasnt completly sealed off but it was damn close. i dunno, being that i have low power and cheaper subs could be a factor. they farted at me at certain freqs. mostly the hight ones. but the lows werent near as loud as they are firing back. two PR memphis 15s and 560RMS back there. more power, better subs....

Mike Stiers and Jason Robawichhca;dkhf (rawdawgj from Tpro) are the loudest stock trunkers. The nspl guys all have variables like cut rear decks and shit. Those guys did like 153 and change with stock trunk and one battery. Street class style.
