bcbrassard Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I would look at the RF P3SD2 ohm 8" sub. More wattage but still able to sound great. Just my 2 cents.
kingsuv Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 I've used both the DC 8 and the RF 8 Both do very well for mid bass. I have had a dozen or so brands of PA drivers in my doors over the years. None of them can play the range you expect out of a midbass driver. It's way easier to get a DC 8 to play 320hz then a PA driver to play under 80hz Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
will77530 Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 ive heard many dc eights used as midbass, never sounded muddy at all. infact i plan on using them in my truck
MACnonsence6 Posted October 23, 2013 Author Report Posted October 23, 2013 i wouldnt think the shallow 8 in a cubby would get muddy at all it would have a higher fq im still leaning twards that option because i feel as though that would be the perfect choice glass over the cubby so it has its own chamber find the volume of said cubby enclosure. then model that with bassbox. stuff acordingly and turn acordingly should be able to pick up in the midbass region pretty much carry over between my subs to my 6x9s or 5-1/4 ect I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. This thing sounds amazing. 130 watts, 12" woofer with a passive 12" woofer tuned to 27 hz. Moving the pictures on the walls and my girl got wet from the bass when i showed her haha. Tonight should be good haha.
john253a Posted October 23, 2013 Report Posted October 23, 2013 Why do you want an 8" sub as a mid bass Instead if an 8" mid bass driver?
MACnonsence6 Posted October 23, 2013 Author Report Posted October 23, 2013 because i feel that the other would be to harsh and peaky based on its spl. idk maybe im wrong and should take your advice but i feel like for my aplication the shallow 8 would perform better then the 8" midbass. i dont need a speaker to do mid range i need something that can carry over the lap from the subs to the other speakers in the lower spectrum I picked up an MTX Sw1212 powered subwoofer today. kingsuv Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 My personal experience has been this. In most cars we are lacking the punch from about 63hz to around 250. Sure smaller drivers can "play" that range but lack the authority doing it at the levels we expect. I would much rather use a smaller sub like an 8 to play up in the frequencies then try to hammer down on a mid range driver to do the same thing. I use my DC 8's in a box that is just big enough to mount them in. I literally fiberglassed a pod around the magnet and tapered it up to meet the cutout of the sub. They complement my sub stage nicely. When done correctly, you won't hear the 8's you will hear a full soundstage. Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Kevin M Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 When you hear car with good midbass everything else seems hollow in comparison. I had a 10" poly cone in the doors on 240 watts and it was amazing. Now I use a 12" PA driver and they will dig into the 60's. Whatever you do get the largest driver you can realistically fit and deaden the absolute hell out of the areas they are mounted to. I'll second mrd6 recc. of the Peerless sls. There is also the Dayton RS225 , an 8" version of the Goldwood I used, and The Silver Flute's. They have a monstrous size magnet on them so the depth might be an issue though. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=295-376 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=290-312 http://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/approx-8-woofers/silver-flute-w20rc38-04-ohm-8-wool-cone/ 2005 Ford Focus zx4 AMT's and Planars 18" Infinite baffle
