Figured some may have differing opinions on the topic; but my excessive amperage alt just went out on me a couple days ago (pulley started grinding the bearings down)

Was the belt possibly too tight? I know a belt too tight can kill bearings.

I don't believe so man. Had a decent amount of play to it....not too much but not to tight either.

If the bearing was shooting metal shavings out then you most likely had the belt too tight causing it to prematurely fail.

hm maybe man.....maybe the alt was actually a beefy bitch to be able to run a tight belt for 3+ years....

Either way, just waiting for an email response to know if it can be fixed and how much it is

I dont know about other alt companies, i have only used one h/o alt and its a Singer. Its working great, according to singer all of his units have a lifetime warranty that covers any repair labor and parts are also paid for by the company. Not sure how that compares to other company policies for a warranty though. I have no complaints though

I really think demand on the unit plays into this question.

Im taxing mine, hard. And, when my XS power VCM comes in, ill tax it even harder. Gonna work, and heat that bitch to some scary levels.

Then, ill really really lean on it.

Guess ill see how long it lasts. But,. in no WAY am i gonna baby mine. Fuck no, i want every single volt/amp i can get.

And, belt to tight causing bearing failure? Get better bearings. My belt, takes 4 men, and a lil boy to put on. And, i want it tighter.

(so far, my shit has been wicked solid, under high high loads/demands. Cant wait to kill it more, bring it on)

I mean my stock alt is 12 going on 13 years and has been good with 2500w+ for almost a year now.

I am considering Singer....His prices seem solid and so does his CS. I'm guessing I haven't gotten a response to my email because of SEMA this week. So I'll be waiting till next week to hear anything most likely. I'm not sure how it goes as far as parts and the quality being used....but I did notice that the pulley on the high output is a lightweight aluminum. My stock alt is back in now and running no problem. I wish I could fit a bigger alt in there but 220 is the biggest with the stock case.

Kylar, what kind of alt are you running?

As for the load, it really wasn't substantial....any kind of higher amperage was seen very early in this alt's lifespan; then taken back down to a little over stock and not much more.
