Fuzzy336 Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 I currently have a 2002 Tahoe with the 5.3 v8 motor and I'm running a mechman 270a alt on it, well a friend has a 2007+ avalanche and has 2 dc 250a alts he's about to sell, I believe his avalanche is also the 5.3 but with the year difference, if I got a triple alt bracket could I run all 3 alts together if I leave my mechman in the main spot and used the 2 from my friend in the 2nd and 3rd spot sense it would just be getting cut on via the 12 volt wire in the harness? Please let me know if this will work or not and anything else I should know related to this subject, thanks! Tarball Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 My theory is that it should work if you can get all the voltage regulators set to the exact same voltage. Maybe external regulators would help, not sure. drbizerk Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 this will work....just tap into the wire coming out of your factory plug that is in the "L" spot. That wire is the one that excites the alts and tells them to start charging. the voltage regulator with the highest voltage should take over
Dangrebel Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Will work fine. Been doing it for almost 2 yrs now 1999 GMC Yukon, 6 PSI platform 5 18's, 4th order bandpass by BHE, Taramps,
audiofanaticz Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 will work just fine. chances are his gm alts are the same as your gm alts as well, maybe just slight cosmetic differences in the cases, and possibly color options. Just make sure to link all 3 alternators together with 1/0 so they will all see the same load at the same time. I ran a stock alt for a few years while I waited to get that 3rd dc power 390xp under my hood.
TeamHT Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Only issue I see would be voltage. My mechmans charged at 14.4 but my DCs at 14.8 Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
