Doesn't matter how cold, I still find myself rolling down the passenger window for extra loudz, even if I can't feel my fingers.

I like to start the electronics up pretty quickly … everything is off when I start up because I like to listen to th motor, everything else, looking for unusual noises. After about 30 seconds of that the electronics go on, no volume at this point.

If the engine temp (water temp) is up then the heater fan comes on (in winter), if not I let the water temp come up before that comes on. Lots of people run the defroster right away but you're only taking heat from the motor which extends warm-up time. Let the motor come up to temp.

Another thing people fail to do is to clear the intake vents …. usually by the wipers … of snow. This plus windows is critical to clear of snow; fail to do so and you bring extra moisture into the cabin and that leads to interior frosting or longer defrost times.

Once the electronics have been on for maybe five minutes they are definitely all warmed up at least at the circuit level. Now it's volume up to a moderate level … maybe 90db SPL 1w/1m level. A few minutes of that and you are good to go in my opinion.

PS: Damien: I lived in MN and was always frustrated that news etc would never give the air temps, always just wind chill. Your vehicle does not care what the wind chill is, and when you're sitting in the vehicle, you are not affected by wind chill. The vehicle can never be colder than the air temp; with a wind chill of -ten million it would just take a nanosecond to reach air temp, no colder.

I do thank you for using the proper terminology; if it's air temp you use the F (or C) symbol, if it's wind chill you never use the F (or C) symbol because Wind Chill is not a temperature.

Currently back in Canada; normal temps are +40 to -40C (105F to -40F).
