hdorre
Okay.. So Im buying a pair of 10" DC Level 4 m2s and will be powering them with around 3500wrms. I drive a Mitsubishi 3000GT (has a hatch). The subs and port will both be firing up. Here's what Im thinking.. 2 - 2.25 cubes tuned between 32-33hz. Im a bit lost on port area. A friend advised me that ~35 sqin would work well, but does anyone else want to comment on the box? Im all ears.. Thanks again guys Quote On 5/8/2011 at 7:38 PM, Kranny said: On 5/8/2011 at 7:35 PM, 'Maxim' said: It hurts me inside when I read stuff like this and remember you're 15 LMFAO so true Mitsubishi 3000GT (Old Build) Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: (2) McLaren Audio MLT-2 Tweeters & (4) PRV Audio MR Series Neo 6.5" Mids Substage: 4 15" Hybrid Subs - Tantric Motors & Sundown Softies Amps: Banda 2.4D Amp (Tweets), American Bass VFL 350.4 (Mids), and (2) Ampere 3800s Electrical :Singer 260A Alt & JY Power Lithium 2005 Chevy Colorado Ext Cab Headunit: Pioneer 80PRS Frontstage: 4 PRV 700Ti Tweets & 6 10" Delta Mids on 3000wrms Substage: 6 Fi BTL 18s in a 4th Order Walkthrough on 3 Wolfram 4500s Electrical: Singer "390" and JY Power My Official Feedback Thread
CJ18
net airspace looks good. 12-15in2 of port per 1ft3. Anything in that range should work well for you. It just gives you a little bit of wiggle room when designing the box since it can be a bit of a pain to get everything just perfect.
Krakin
60 in2 of port + 10% A single 8" aeroport will do well, flaring it will make it much better. Quote Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. Krakin
Was not a typo. 60 square inches + 10% is the best you can get without testing multiple boxes. For car audio you can go on the smaller side, but do risk chuffing. Smaller than that can risk chuffing, compression, and other unwanted disruptions. Souldrop
The 'ideal" amount of port is generally higher than most people run. Anything thus far suggested will work, but krakin's suggestion is closer to the optimal. You have to find a middle ground between port area and length depending on your install limitations and hope for the best. CleanSierra
you like a lot of port krakin hahaI recommend port just the same as Krakin. There are a few port calculators that really make it easy and they also offer the formula from Small as well. I use the same program that Krakin uses and it's also the one that Bkolfo uses. All from the Loudspeaker Cookbook. Two Level 4 12" subs are right at 85" using the same formula. And Krakin's suggestion was slightly under what the calculator suggests. It's actually 62.31" Edited December 1, 2013 by CleanSierra Quote Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

n8ball2013
So how many of you guys have actually built a box with that much port area? I'm curious as to what the results were.
