-Dont fuck around in Basic, learn all you can, everything they do to you there is for a reason. Even though its been pussified quite a bit since I went through.

-When you get to your unit, don't be a shitbag. ALWAYS be on time, that means 10 minutes early. "Hurry up and wait."

-Show initiative in wanting to learn and advance. Don't be a brown-noser/cocksucker, but be sure your squad leader knows you want to learn, this means stuff above your pay grade.

-Keep yourself fit.

-Keep your gear in working condition. Supply will replace something if it breaks, so ask if you have to. You may depend on that stuff at some point.

-Do not EVER EVER EVER EVER show up to work drunk or smelling of liquor. Best thing to do is just not drink at all on work nights. You'll get hemmed up quick.

-Just be squared away. Once you know the standards, keep to them. The Army is not hard, you will be told exactly where to be, when to be there, what to do, and when to do it. Too easy "Hooah"

LMFAO I miss that shit.

i never cared to join myself, only ever cared about my education and not doing anything else, but then i had a family and my focus is there now, but my father was in the 101st airborne (screaming eagles) and loved it. he was a demolition specialist and expert marksman with an m16. He loved telling stories about his time in the army. Respect and discipline, take it seriously.

You will most likely never see a Patriot launched. You will probably get frustrated with 14E and eventually want to go to EOD school. I've got almost 9 years of active Army service now. Good luck and my words won't make sense to you until after you have been at a unit for a year or two.

This is all true except we don't use the "H" word. That shit is retarded.... and also know how to look up regulations and know what you can and can't do. Don't always wait for someone to tell you what to do (after you are not in training anymore). Take initiative and be able to justify what and why you are doing something.

I have one more day on active duty. 16 years in the Army and I miss it already!

Like mentioned above, do as you are told. Keep stories of what you heard to yourself, don't try and take over basic (you will have platoon leaders, squad leaders etc and it doesn't mean a fucking thing once you hit your first unit). NO ONE wants to hear your basic training stories! Be humble and absorb all you can from your leadership.

Don't hang out with or try to be like the "gangsta" crowd. Bunch of fake ass tough guys who will get your ass in trouble. Ther are THOUSANDS of ways to fuck up and your leaders are totally aware of what they are and can spot a trouble maker a mile away.

Don't feel the need to impress anyone. A good soldier will be recognized as such from his actions alone. Cutting loose is a common way to try and remember the old days and is the number one cause of your getting home quicker than you expected.

Keep your head together and remember why you are there.
