gattiboy13 Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 What are your opinions on capacitors. Do they do any good or a waste of money? Is it best just to invest in batteries and alternator or are they worth using or what is a good way to go to keep up voltage and feed your amps hunger?
ChevyBoy95 Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 if you are talking about those paper weights that are 1F, or 5F capacitors with the bright LED's on them, save your money. If you are talking about the other caps.... well, read up. alaskanzx5 Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 There has been a lot of testing of caps on this forum. I have a link somewhere to one of the best tests i've seen for caps. I'll try to find it and post it here. Good caps are carbon caps or as suggested snowdrifter has a nice super cap bank he made. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz.
KillaCam Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 You keep asking these types of questions but still like to give other people suggestions. I hope you don't end up giving bad advice and having someone else's car screwed up because of it. And the fact more than one person agrees does not make it a circle jerk, it makes it a bukkake scene and you're in the middle Chick took 3 shots of Jager, and then, pissed in my mouth.. SnowDrifter Posted December 18, 2013 Report Posted December 18, 2013 Music is generally considered to be a 50% duty cycle. Mathematically if you have an alt that can supply your car's needs plus >50% of your audio needs, caps would work great to fill in when the current demand exceeds your alt, and capture/store some power when current demand if less than what your alt can supply. My own application of this: DC power 270xp and a sundown 4500. Could push the sundown into clipping and still maintain 14v at all times from a charge voltage of 14.4 ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
