Nothing major like 5 minutes of your time. Evidently the learn at your own pace is a little difficult when you are required to bring other people into this. Psychologists are essentially the mediators between us and our thoughts. They help people who cant understand why they are thinking the things they are do just that. M, 34, Bachelors Degree To me, psychology is the study of how the human brain works and why people act the way they do. That being said, most explanations are theory, and psychologists either follow already popular theories, trying to expand on them, or try to create their own. There are simply too many people in the world to study all their brains and thought processes, and determine why some are screwed up. Studies need to have a much, much larger sample of participants, and more technology and less theory should be used. There are of course different sub-fields with this area. Psychologists try to help people deal more effectively with their life issues and also mental health problems. This includes feeling depressed, angry or anxious for a long time. There also could be a chronic condition that is causing problem. Some issues that may effect people are new jobs, retirement from one job and going into a different work force (ie, military), death of a loved one and even traumatic experiences can trigger changes some ones life. Psychology to me is a practice of classifing human behavior into neat catagories and attempting to determine a standard for normal behavior. Although I rarely agree on what normal is, I think a better term for it would be average. I would give an analogy but these leave to much too the imagination.
