di4medollaz Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 So i live in british columbia canada and its hard to have nice car audio out here cause a} there are no stores out here that sell higher end stuff or its very hard to find them and b} ordering online they charge a huge huge shipping fee even if its somewhere close like vegas or california and high duty charges "even though i thought there is no duty on electronics" and ordering online is kind of a risk cause if its defective or needs warranty work done its a couple hundred in shipping wich is almost more then the sub is worth So i decided to try out the only decent brand available i could find wich is audison and hertz from a local shop even thought its 35% more expensive then usual prices in the states or online I drive a 2010 Mercedes e63 amg and needed oem intergration for my euro car and the gear i picked out was a audison bit 1 for the oem factory head unit and a $400 adaptor to use the fiber optics "mobridge" and hertz mille fronts and tweets and hertz hcx rears and a hertz 15" high energy hx 380d sub and all this run by a audison voce 5.1k 5 channel amp wich has a 1000 watts rms for the sub powering portion and i purchased the audison bit in to make it all a digital signal and keep building on it as i go. This was best i could find and cost a pretty penny so i expected it too sound great. I got the car back after they had it for a week and a half and the bass sounds like garbage after a few hours of playing it after i left the shop and terrible sounding noises are coming from the hertz sub on certain notes!! Even though the trunk is dynamted certain bass notes sound terrible and with rattle also and when i even attempt to turn it up high it starts smelling and woofer gets hot in the centre. Now the install looks super clean all the wiring is top notch and nice and tight and box looks great and nicley designed apperantly to hertz specs and was tuned and this shop had great reviews and is a official audison hertz dealer. So what i did was had a buddy who does comps look at it and what he said was no matter what sub i put in there its gonna sound crappy and also rattle the sides no matter what i try too also rattle proof it cause the ports are too close too the sides of the trunk and the box is just plain wrong and i just think they rushed the job so much cause they are so busy and i just keep spending more and more money trying to get it fixed and no doubt they arent gonna build me a new box for free and im thinking im just done with them. I know people will say have them fix it but I am just gonna wash my hands of it and take is a lesson learned albiet expensive one and return the sub and guess throw the $500 custom box in the garbage and start over. Im thinking it wont cost me a crazy amount cause everythings wired already and mercedes trunk is in the battery all i have to do is get a new subwoofer and have a new box built to its specs and get a new amp rack and get the sub tuned cause front and rear speakers already sound great. Sorry for the rant but what do you think i should do? Theses are my questions 1.How or where can i possibly find high quality subwoofers in Canada? 2.what power subwoofers would you professionals reccomend that will run best on the 1000 watt mono block section of the audison 5.1k 5 channel amp tuned with the bit 1? 3. If anyone here that has experience with newer mercedes know what would the best box design be for the way that mercedes designs their trunks now? Cause mercedes trunks are virtually sound proof when stock and bass has a very hard time entering the cabin cause there is no holes in the rear deck and speakers are in the door so whats the best position for the box? 4.Is there any installers someone can reccomend in vancouver bc or lower mainland B.C.? I wanna spend about $600 to $800 on woofer or woofers and if i can ever find someone good i want them to design me the custom box in best way for sound and custom install it. Thanks very much
deathcards Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 sounds like the gain is too high on the sub amp that would cause distortion causing the sub to get hot and start smelling coil the sub is a good sub as for the box i am unsure on how good it is if you could toss some ports going through the rear deck to the trunk it will help with bass entering the cabin skar sk2500.1 0 gauge power and ground kunukonceptz alpine HUvxi65 components on BA gt-275new build log -> http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/150642-project-d-kon-deathcards-build-log/#entry2148821 2 x-15 sundowns singer alt, odyssey bat, and maxwell ultra caps
di4medollaz Posted January 17, 2014 Author Report Posted January 17, 2014 can anyone point me in the right direction to buy high quality subs from canada? i know alot of retailers come to this forum and whats highest watt rms 15" sub would i be able to get away with on my audison 5.1k ? the monoblock section says 1000 watt rms on the spec sheet also i listen to hip hop and RnB so i want a bit of both sq and spl thanks
Unkown107 Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 you drive a 2010 Mercedes an u worried bout shippin prices?
slowfkncar Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 Personally,i would scrap the stock system and build a fiberglass kit for a aftermarket stereo. I have done many,if you choose to go that route,be sure to dissconect and cover up the optical signal feeding into the factory amp,or you will have overnight battery drain issues. If you choose to keep the audison bit one with optical integration, you are feeding a sloppy signal which can easily signal clip the bit one which is no good when your sub enclosure is inside a sealed trunk. The cheapest alternative i give my customers for s/sl/e class is to use a sealed enclosure and open up the trunk from the cabin by taking out the factory woofer. I have had an e55 before and figured out that the sealed trunk just doesnt work with ported/bandpass. Deadener WILL help force the sound to thr cabin depending on how much you use and how much air can transfer to thr cabin from the trunk.
slowfkncar Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 By the way, this is common. . Maybe your installer did a good job. But if your one against drilling holes or removing the factory woofer then there isnt much your installer can do for you.

bigmizzle99 Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 You already bought top quality equipment. I would suggest a different box and play with placement. Definitely adjust the gain if you can smell the co I L's, get a DD1 to adjust it. Camaro SS Build Altima build 2.0 Altima build 1.0
Phaeton Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Welcome to Canadian audio market haha. Ive looked about as hard as you can for high quality subs in Canada. Its not gonna happen. Just order from the states because everything here is going to be 3X more expensive then buying and shipping from the usa. As for your install, i think your gain is up to high. And if you dont feel like cutting holes in your rear deck, i would take out the back speakers and put a aero port through one. 1997 subaru legacy outback Four 15's in a almost wall Rockford Fosgate t2500-1bdcp Rockford Fosgate T400-4 on tweets Rockford Fosgate T400-4 on highs Rockford Fosgate T400-2 on midrange Rockford Fosgate T400-2 on midbass Optima Yellow top batteries 270A Singer alt (working on a bracket for a second) Lots of Second Skin
