What would be more beneficial to me ?

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I have a mechman "260" amp alt, 850 cca agm batt up front, big 3 done, and 2 92 ah cell tower back up batterys in back. Would it be more beneficial for me to add a 2nd run of positive from alt to rear batts, or do a run of negative from the negative of front batt to rear batt negative ? Oh sub amp is dc 2k and I only drop to like 12.5-12.6 at idle wangin away at full tilt on a dc lvl5 18.

Don't even do the negative run. Prolly don't even need to do the positive run either but it wouldn't hurt anything (especially if you upgrade your RMS wattage later one). That is really not that bad of voltage drop. What is it like at 2k RPM? Do you play at idle a lot? What is your voltage like on vehicle start up? How about when hot with no stereo on?

I'd add a second pos and double up the neg to where you have it now. You might not need it but It definitely couldn't hurt. I agree you don't need to run a neg from the front though.

Also what kind of batts do you have? Could maybe have something to do with it. Better quality batts yes exspensive but also may save you in the long run.

It really seems no different at 2k rpm, voltage just drops slower. And no, not usually. Voltage is usually 14.2-14.3 on start up. Sometimes even 14.7 before it warms up lol. And hot is usually 13.7 - 13.8

Wait, you drop like 2 volts?!?

Read my sig, I'm running over 4k on a 30a smaller alt and 34aH less in battery reserve. At IDLE, I drop to 12.9 at a min from 14.6ish volts full tilt after a full song.

Of course impedance rise plays a role, but that big of a role? Ehh..

What are your subs wired to, impedance wise? Check that voltage with a DMM.

What are your current grounds like?

I'm concerned.

I agree.

Seeing battery rest, with that bank, with a 2k, and a damn decent alt, you have a problem....

Do you run at .25 or something?

you have more drop then me when I have stock alt,d925,D3100 on a 2200. even when I'm at idle.

You don't need a second run since you don't have enough alt to make use of it really. I'd check my batteries and look at another one

Yeah I guess it could be the reserve. Or the alt. Idk. I got paperwork with the alt when i bought it secondhand, and it has a new voltage regulator. I've got two of these guys. http://www.osibatteries.com/p-1055-enersys-powersafe-sbs-c11-sealed-lead-acid-battery-120v-910ah.aspx They charge and rest like my front batt so they should be fine right ?

I'm running the 18 at 1 ohm before box rise, deck is an 80prs, gains set by dd1.
