Splicing 1/0 - dang it!

Recommended Posts

Ok, I hate this. I have to extend some 1/0 power wire.

What methods have you guys used to splice 2 pieces of 1/0?

I just bought a 12 ton crimper so I thought about using a chunk of copper pipe as a giant butt connector. Then heatshrink - then Techflex.

It is Knu 1/0 OFC and it will only have a 200amp fuse on the 20ft run, so I'm not worried about a some resistance.

Thanks.

Any reason why you need to splice vs. making a new run and using the old as scrap? You can pretty much plan on having little to no flexibility on the 8" of wire where the splice is.

Where would this be in the run? Middle? One of the ends? You could always use a fuse holder

I've used the butt connectors from Home Depot before. It's a long aluminum lug with 4 set screws...not bad.

I just want the best connection possible.

Any opinions on soldering into a sold mass? wouldn't that create more resistance?

Yeah the copper sleeve - that's what I was thinking.
