Beginner-Intermediate Maintenance Tips

Recommended Posts

I drive a 2009 Dodge Caliber SXT. Plain Jane model.

I've put about 15k miles on it and not sure how long its been since any maintenance was done before I bought it. I'm at 70k miles right now.

New tires and alignment at the shop next week.

What other maintenance, mods, or engine upgrades can I do at home to extend the life of my car?

Have you changed the oil since you got it?

Yea, quite a few times. Last visit to the shop I used the best oil they had in stock. Penzoil Platinum. This oil supposed to last 7.5k miles as opposed to 3k that I'm used to. I'll check at the 3k mark and see how it looks.

Do brands matter? Or is it all a pissing match?

go to the nearest Dodge dealership and ask for a service schedule. go to auto zone and buy a Hanes manual. do whatever the dealer schedule services are at whatever point and you can reference the Hanes manual.

if nothing changes, nothing changes

Factory fluids are just rebranded fluids made by the big oil company's. in this case mopar oil is supplied by shell and Pennzoil. I know how people are about their oil brands they use in their cars so I'm not going to recommend a brand an start a argumnet, however I will tell you that all major brands of oil meet or exceed oem specs. The one brand I absouletly not use is castrol it's garbage I will use anything else besides like store brand oils I buy whatever is on sale. Also my personal preference even with synthetic oils that claim extreme amounts of mileage between oil changes I still change every 3k.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
