jakmagic Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Hi guys, has anybody had experience with Excessive Amperage alternators? This company was recommended by a friend of mine. Guess its a smaller operation owned by a guy who's been building h/o alternators for 18 yrs. I understand many people will say go with a Singer, DC, or Mechman, which is what I may do. For informative purpose let's keep this post on Excessive Amperage. He offers 250-300-350a alternators. Can powder coat to almost any color and offers polished too. If anybody has any experiences with these please post a little about it. Also thanks to everybody who takes the time to read or post on this topic. 97 Buick LeSabre with stock 140 amp alternator XS Power D3400 (under the hood) using pdb distro blocks Big 3 done with 2/0 ga welding cable Alpine CDE-HD149BT head unit CT Sounds Meso 6.5" components CT Sounds 60.4 CT Sounds 1400.1 Fi Q 12 D2 with cooling in 2.5 net tuned @32 hz (box built by Sound Mekanix Customs) Bunch of Sky High 1/0 ga & 4 ga cable (plus fuse holders) Connection BT2 & BT4 550 (Audison) RCA's Bunch of Mojo Mat

dolarbilz Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I have EA 300 alt. It works .it broke on me in the 1st hour running it.he did warranty it.his emails for sales were responsive for warranty seemed emails were slow. I still have it its a lot smaller than my singer 350.sometimes I wonder if its even 300..maybe his works better these days
bmuhammad1 Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I have an EA alternator. The guys name is Nat. He was recommended to me by a friend mine Jeremy weber. I had my alt powder coated to match my Burgundy car. Plus I got an adjustable regulator. I think I paid about 480 for everything. He was pretty helpful with some issues I had but for me was very slow to respond so it get a quicker response I had to go through my friend. Trying to reach him on the phone was impossible. I was told my alt does 270 amp and about 200 at idle. I didn't get a print out of the specs so I'm currently trying to get Someone to meter my alt to see if it actually does what they said it's rated at. I have no reason to suspect Nat would lie. Seems to be a real stand up guy.
TeamHT Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 One of the best experiences I had with an alternator was through Nate at EA....that said the past couple years I have only seen horror stories. I don't know, my experience was good and the alt is still running to this day 4+ years now Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
hispls Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I'm running one now. Bought one from him about 4 years ago, wore it out after about 100,000 miles, had a rebuild last year.. Had a few troubleshooting issues and he got back to me quick on the phone to walk me through things I couldn't be happier with the service and support I've got from Nate.
mbdblue Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 I ran my 200 amp for a little over 3 years...Seemed to do alright. I had a problem with it about 8 months ago (believe the bearings went on the pulley and started chewing out chunks of metal.) I emailed him to see if I could get it fixed; didn't know if it was still under warranty but I assumed it wasn't. I was willing to pay for the fix, but he never got back to me. Now it's still sitting on my garage floor and I have the stock one in. Figuring out if it's worth trying to contact him again. jakmagic Posted August 8, 2014 Author Report Posted August 8, 2014 So overall the responses look pretty positive with a couple mishaps. Looks like the only negative is trying to communicate with him sometimes. That is to be expected once in awhile with a small operation like that. I think I'll have to get a quote. My car has a alternator with a goofy bracket (97 Buick Lesabre 140 amp) so I hope it is even available. Thanks for all the input and responses guys! 97 Buick LeSabre with stock 140 amp alternator XS Power D3400 (under the hood) using pdb distro blocks Big 3 done with 2/0 ga welding cable Alpine CDE-HD149BT head unit CT Sounds Meso 6.5" components CT Sounds 60.4 CT Sounds 1400.1 Fi Q 12 D2 with cooling in 2.5 net tuned @32 hz (box built by Sound Mekanix Customs) Bunch of Sky High 1/0 ga & 4 ga cable (plus fuse holders) Connection BT2 & BT4 550 (Audison) RCA's Bunch of Mojo Mat
mbdblue Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 just want to update my previous statement; I emailed Nathan again last week and he got back to me within a few days, saying he doesn't charge to check out my alternator for repair. I'll be sending it in this week to see what he says.
