hdorre
I have a few "general" questions.. 1) Is anyone running over 3kwrms each daily? 3500 anyone? 2) Im looking at 18s.. I know its box dependent, but how do you like them? Specifically referring to frequency response. Im looking to play 28-50ish hz with balls. 3) Are any factory upgrades available? 4) Do you have any complaints? Major or minor, doesnt matter. sbg
I run 2 SQ hdc3 12s in 5.23cuft net tuned to 35hz with 2-6" round ports. They are pushed by a orion xtr3700.1(3700wrms@12v) Gain set with a DD1, and they love the power. But they still get stinky down at 28hz if you play them more then one song that low. I see on SQ web site they say you can run a 3500 on one for burps. I wouldn't run a hdc3 on 3k daily. The hdc4 on the other hand is a for sure 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. SnowDrifter
I had the chance to play with an hd3 18 back when I had my 3.5k Took the power pretty well and sounded good, even in a box tuned lowish. Got down to 24 no probs, played up to the mid 40s ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

SQL50
In the long run, stick closer to rms imo.. if your competing and have money to spend on subs, recones etc go for it.. if it's daily, run rms or if you just have to overpower it, run like 1500 rms per sub.. but that gets off into box design tuning, thermal handling, mechanical limits etc when you go to push a sub way over rms, really goy to know what your doing with experimenting with them. And that usually results in tearing something up..imo stick with rms or push a little more CLEAN power to them.
hdorre
So, after looking over these replies.. Searching.. and emailing SQ.. It seems like mechanically, these subs are FINE. However, thermally.. theyre meh. Im not feeling that 4layer copper coil. Ive been thinking of buying HDC3 motors and dropping in custom recones. ChevyBoy95
I had 2 15's in 6.5 or 7 cubes tuned to 30 w/ 2 6in psp aeros on a 5k @ 1, mechanically ate the power, but anything below 30hz would get them stinky after about 30-45 seconds. If you get a beefier coil in there, you could easily put 5-6k to a pair.
