reedal
Looking for a good setup for my explorer. I have the substage/electrical taken care of, but i have stock mids/highs and they in no way keep up with the subs. I want to modify the kick to put the mid-bass there, the tweets in the A-pillar, and the mid-range in the stock door spot. intend to power them with a RF R300X4 (50Wx4ohm, 75Wx4@2ohm) but am open to suggestions for other amps. Trying to keep the budget under $400, not looking for the best quality out there. No competitions, just a daily driver that i can hear the words over the bass. Currently my head unit is some walmart sony that was in it when i bought it two years ago, not looking to change that anytime soon. kingsuv
The PPI 3 way set is a very capable setup. I would try to keep the 3 and tw close together as possible. You can find the set for about 250 Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
bcbrassard
I say mid bass in the kick panels and mids & highs in upper doors or A Pillar to help get your sound stage up off the floor and closer to the listening position. Amazon Has Focal Access A3 165 3-ways for $329. Pretty good deal IMO. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001Q9EKV4/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1UCXBWEJU31E7&coliid=I3OFT9WBSP2BAF
OrionStang
Whichever you decide, you may want a more powerful amp. 50 watts for a 3-way, meh. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
bcbrassard
X2, You should be looking for 125+ watts per ch IMO.
reedal
Ok then hit me with amps/components that hit the mark. under $500 for everything. The sub-stage is looking at 2400-2600@ 2ohm RMS from a SQ Q1-3500D, so whats a 3-way passive setup with adequate amplification from there? I have a 1997 Ford Explorer with upgraded stock 5 speaker + amp setup. Just looking to replace/fix front stage (midbass in the kick panels, midrange in the doors, tweets in the A-pillars). With crossovers due to inability to run active at this time SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=

OrionStang
SQ only has the 200.2. I was thinking the same though, a nice 2 channel amp. You could sell your 4 channel to put towards it, increasing your overall budget. This amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_67762_Rockford-Fosgate-P400X2.html On the Focal set listed above would be sweet. bcbrassard
That punch amp has a good budget price and power. Yes the focal would have nice SQ, not sure if it would keep up with his sub stage. I like the compactness of RF amps.
