nighthawk Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 SORRY GOT MY TOPIC LOCKED been reading on this and there's alot of people who are against this BUT if you had separate boxes and separate amplifiers why wouldn't this work? i personally have 2 sundown x18s and would like to use them for the lows and buy a pair of sundown sa15s or obsidian 15s tuned @45-50 for highs haven't decided if im actually gonna try this but im curious an would like to hear from some of you guys also if you say don't do it explain why
nighthawk Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 @totasty i think i need it because my 18s are gonna be tuned to 30 and wont hit the 45s an up @gunnem iv heard of the "cancellation" thing but i also heard it was "BS" (not my words) @tborn i dont know if i would have the space for a 6th @madvibes 15s wouldn't be good for high bass notes? @big a i also watched a couple vids on people that made it work like exo & sonic electronics its in my nature to question an try to understand things.. so again please dont just say dont do it im hear to learn
ToNasty Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 all you need is a properly designed box for the 18s and you should have no problem ***Super Sellers List***http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/25829-super-sellers-buyers
MrSkippyJ Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 it works fine, except you lose tons of output compared to people with similar amounts of cone area. Design and build your enclosure well and you don't have to worry about adding subs in to cover those frequency ranges. Edit: what ToNasty said. nighthawk Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 one of the guys helping me with my box for the 18s said it would hit 26-40 is there anything i can do to be able to hit 45 to upper 50s as well? honestly i dont want to build another box an get another amp but i dont know what else to do
Triticum Agricolam Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 What are the specs on your box for the 18"s and what amp are you running? Like others have said, there is no reason you can get your 18"s to cover the whole frequency range you want, you just need a proper box design. SIDE SHOW Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 am yet to hear a decent sounding system with different size subwoofers
nighthawk Posted March 9, 2015 Author Report Posted March 9, 2015 nobody designed a box yet i dont wanna ask until i get enough feed back but are you saying i could build a box that would pick up 25-55
SnowDrifter Posted March 9, 2015 Report Posted March 9, 2015 Truth be told your time and money would be better spent with one box and the same drivers in said box. If you want to experiment, go for it. I'm all for that, but I donthink the results will be as good as you think. Different tunings have a different phasing across their frequency range, that's why when you have 2 different boxes with 2 different tunings, they'll cancel eachither out at certain frequencies. It is, theoreticaly possible to do this with crossovers such that they don't interfere, but that's a lot of time and money experimenting when you could build one box that will play what you need musically. ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
