meade916
Question of the day. If a cheap amp says "X Amount" of watts in big bold letters on the box but really does far less than that....but is still "good power for the money", is it ok with you? In other words, is it ok that the manufacturer exaggerated the numbers (lied to you) to get you to buy the product as long as it was a good deal in the long run? 2 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! meade916
my take is, if you think $75 bucks on a 2000 watt amp that does 488 in reality on it's BEST day, then more power to you. If you go into it knowing that you are only getting that amount of power but it fits your budget, then go for it! But will you trust that company later in life when you have a bigger budget and more options? a little extra power than rated is a bonus. a lot less that rated is a rip off. Just my opinion really. 2 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong! RooTxBeeR
I don't think so. That's why I stay away from those brands. Why buy a product that the company lies about. Just be honest, people still buy it when you lie. Imagine how much better they'd feel if you where honest from the start. Edit: To respond to the 2nd post. That's why I dont go to them, was a noob and found out the truth. Now I go with companies that do more than rated and run like butter down a hot knife lol Edited July 1, 2015 by RooTxBeeR Quote On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. Hotdog
If actual watts per dollar are good then I would try it. meade916
if brand X has an amp that has 1200 watts on the box but in reality it only does 298.......but is only $39 bucks, that is a GREAT deal for $39 bucks! Why wouldn't brand X just save some dignity and call it a 300 watt amp if it's still a great deal? An amp doesn't need to do twice the rated RMS to get my respect. It just needs to do what it claims. That's it. Seems like a reasonable request right? 11 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! You would definitely have to go into something like that knowing your going to eat the cost of the amp if it fails. SnowDrifter
Yeah fine my me. Like the hifonics BRZ series. Really liked the previous generation for that reason. Decent power for the money and wont sent someone new to the game into sticker shock. I've always wondered how many fights the engineers and the marketing team get into behind the scenes over this sort of stuff 1 Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

I've always wondered how many fights the engineers and the marketing team get into behind the scenes over this sort of stuff i know one who got angry when they were instructed to rate the amp 7x more than it could put out if a lightning bolt from the hand of god came down and struck it directly on the terminals. haha...not saying no names. They don't work there anymore though and that is one of the reasons. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Broke_Audio_Addict
I look at the bigger picture too though, sure it might do a decent number for the price even though they lied about it but what kind of quality is it. To me if they would lie that much about the numbers I'd have to guess that they have no problem selling low quality products too. There are plenty of amps out their that probably make what they claim or close too it that are pieces of junk as well. Or how about them ones that make rated but have a nice fuzzy line on a o-scope. Quote That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. Almost all amps can put out some amount of clean power before it gets dirty...rendering the test over. How much power before it gets dirty is the question.
