ARC Audio / Hybrid G35 CES build

Recommended Posts

I was asked to collaborate on this project with Scott, owner of Audio Intensity. He wanted me to add my flair on this build as it would be a different direction than his style.
As some of you might know, this G35 was once Scott Buwalda's ride. This car came with a ton of pedigree so it was real important I didn't screw this up :D
My part on this build was just the trunk. Placement of the amps and processor and overall layout. The sub box was already completed and in place when the car arrived.
The finish colors, wrap and final assembly was done by Scott as well as Vince and the crew at Audio Experts.

1st order of business is paint protection.

Other than my own personal cars, this ones gear choice is about the most money wise I've handled.

IMG_20150826_212425_zpspmdxqpal.jpg
Box duties were already handled before the car got here. 16 - 8's ISO mounted.
IMG_20150826_213812_zpsiwcihohw.jpg
Needed to work on making the box true and square in the car. Anyone who has worked on a few cars will know that NO CAR is perfectly square and true.
IMG_20150826_215015_zpslttenyae.jpg
Amp layout took a bit. do I want them all flat? or 2 dipped into the wheel well? Wheel well was the choice, but of course the hole isnt centered .
IMG_20150826_220442_zpsmmkr4pwr.jpg
Straight box tube from side to side for the back 2.
IMG_20150827_220852_zpsadhrocog.jpg
Took a bit to find a depth that worked that would allow enough room on the lower ends for connections and not stick up on the outer ends.
IMG_20150829_200207_zpsqqjrutfk.jpg
IMG_20150828_223649_zpswwkecr33.jpg
Traced the amp rack to some 1/4 and cut out what I didnt need.

IMG_20150829_150617_zpsqh8lmhwl.jpg
Not much of an opening, but its a little detail to add depth to the build.

IMG_20150829_200212_zpsior8xitg.jpg
IMG_20150829_200207_zpsqqjrutfk.jpg
Amps are all mounted with threaded inserts
IMG_20150828_183341_zps532e5lht.jpg
IMG_20150828_183642_zpskeehyrrn.jpg
Wrapped up and added a little bit of Al to match the center of the ARC amps.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

Couple clean connections made at the battery.

Next is to make a bridge between the amps. Simple in design. Pain in the ass to actually make. First part is to make an exact copy of the end of the amp.
IMG_20150829_184430_zps02y8bkew.jpg
Took some trickery with a few router bits. And to be honest, working a bit on a 1/4 thick rib of wood sucks.
IMG_20150829_201833_zpsl8ss6wqe.jpg
IMG_20150829_201910_zpsipqjr4l8.jpg
Add in a little bit of fuckery and we have a cap that covers the connections without hitting any part of the amp.
IMG_20150829_205817_zpspi5alh6h.jpg
Maxx getting in on the work.
IMG_20150830_151745_zpswzgnlgbl.jpg
I shaved out a little in the center to match the middle of the amps.
IMG_20150830_185412_zpsibg5l0iv.jpg
Next part is to figure out where to put the PS8. I wanted it to be clearly seen, but not be the focal point and take over on the whole build.
IMG_20150826_215307_zpspwboksdl.jpg
facebook-20151231-172525_zpssqmvcc8h.png
Now to be honest, I really didn't have a direction yet. The amp rack layout was easy. Wasn't too many different ways I could mount them. I started out boxing out the processor. After making a few different sizes of rectangles I decided to get creative.
IMG_20150904_225957_zps918stmxp.jpg
Little bit of this and that.
IMG_20150906_131013_zpspbtqto8l.jpg
All the layers snap together with magnets.
IMG_20150907_212603_zpsbsjmsgru.jpg
Once I had enough squares to make a little something, it was time I toned down all the hard edges.
IMG_20150831_230954_zpskdazkp0y.jpg
Little of this and that.
IMG_20150901_173158_zpsqlkffohp.jpg
Couple of clamps
IMG_20150902_185436_zpspqozn0kd.jpg
Sometimes you need to buy some badass bits to make the shapes ya want.
IMG_20150902_180248_zpsoyurxj5b.jpg
Stack a couple layers of Acrylic

Now to see where Scott made everything right. Wrapping a project is tough enough, Wrapping one you didnt build? Takes a baddass mofo. trust me. Shit happens when you build. When you think you have built everything to be wrapped correctly, shit comes up. For him to see what I built and come in with the colors and textures like he did takes a true pro. if i finished this one off, it would have been 10 different versions of black :D

Color of the car was changed to green. the amps were color matched.

facebook-20151231-114625_zpsdqnoqd0n.png

Little bit of color accents the PS8

facebook-20151231-114754_zpsl2elncnm.png

Changed the cover of the PS8 to match the accent on the amps.

facebook-20160105-080334_zpscriaq0sn.png

facebook-20160102-132121_zpsk1gmpfyi.png

Simple accent lighting.

facebook-20151231-114738_zpsanvpcm6q.png

I had built the sides and the underside of the trunk lid for carpet. Little bit of filler to close up the gaps.

amazing work as usual. Surprised that you guys went with green, love that color.

EDIT: Lol nvm, I was thinking they were just doing some work to the fenders not repainting the whole damn car. Its hard being dumb sometimes. Car looks amazing, sooooo much better then silver. I am not a import guy by any means but the G35s are nice. Also the Hybrid boxes on the floor, urgh...fucking ridiculous. SO jealous. ARC and Hybrid are a hard combo to beat.
