lifesfordeath Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 Dumb question but I've tried Google and search options here. My questions, is it a bad idea to run a Subwoofer by a full range amp...say like the Ds18 fr6000.1? Would you use an external crossover or equalizer to adjust for the low pass since it only goes down to 50hz? Thanks
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 I am not familiar with the amp, but generally speaking if you can cross it over where you want it then it would work. This is what we did back in the day when the only thing available were class A/B two channel amps. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
Skullz Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 Most H/U's have a built in crossover, so it would be no problem to use an amp that is full range for sub duty. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Wehan Posted February 6, 2016 Report Posted February 6, 2016 Looks like it has a 10hz-500hz lowpass filter on it so you should be all set.
mrd6 Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 Why would you want to low pass lower than 50hz in the first place? My Build Log: http://www.stevemead...-sundown-power/ Team NorthWestSPL
ShadeTreeMechanic Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 If you had separate sub bass and bass. In a biamped bass setup, the sub bass to bass crossover point could be 30hz depending on setup. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
mrd6 Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 I mean, maybe in a Pa type system but I highly doubt the OP has the knowledge/experience to design a system that would work better that way than with a traditional subwoofer playing roughly 20-80hz on its own. And no offense meant lifesfordeath, just curious what your reasoning was to cross so low My Build Log: http://www.stevemead...-sundown-power/ Team NorthWestSPL

hdorre Posted February 7, 2016 Report Posted February 7, 2016 My banda 7k was a class d full range amp. I had no issues, and neither did the 6 of my team mates who have/had them. That's what class D monoblocks are designed for ... A lowpassed amp can still put out it's full power... Class D amps are especially a good fit for bass amplification. Or did you mean something else by 'not using to all of its capabilities'?
