2015 Chevy Sonic/Wall/4 PSI 15's/SA 6K/Active/Arc/CDT/Singer/US Alt/XS

Recommended Posts

Driving home from Slam, I had a 16 hour drive to think about why I'm not very loud (lol but seriously).  I had only taken a few data points with the IM-SG, but figured it would be good to plot the entire impedance curve of the sub-box system so I could fully understand how and why the impedance varies like it does.

The dark green line is the impedance rise of the system wired to 0.8ohm.  I took values every 1/2 hertz from 15-65Hz, which took a painfully long time with the sensitive dial of the IM-SG.  The faint green line is the power output the amp should make when subjected to the impedance curve of the system.  The takeaway here is that I need a bigger amp!

The bright red line is the system wired to 0.2ohm.  I'm going to make a different thread to discuss this (and possibly other) impedance curves.

Thanks man, it was good to meet and see your rig.  Funny thing, I was more excited to see everyone else's rigs and to get demos than to show off my own, so I was wandering around most of the time.  Trying to upload pics right now, I'll be posting them to everyone's threads once I get them loaded.

I'll have to get one next time!  And you'll have to get one in my truck again, the added power made things violent big time!

I also saw a BAD freeway accident on the way home, and realized (again) that when I removed my rear airbags, that disengaged the entire airbag system.

So I measured the resistance of each airbag (2.2ohm each) and bought (5) 2.2ohm resistors on ebay for $1.67.

Some careful custom bends later:

And BAM, no more airbag light!  Since the airbag system is a 2 wire daisy chained system, it only makes sense to complete the original circuit with the right resistance so that the startup checks can be performed by the BCM.

This is the kinda shit I like to see!  I've graphed impedance curves in old systems, it's a tedious process but helps a ton in matching coils to your amp.  I have to do this in my truck now, just haven't had time yet lol

Where would the airbag light be on the screen?

2000 Toyota Solara SEV6, 200 amp alternator, Jensen VX7020, Hifonics American Warrior Taurus X, Hifonics American Warrior Centurion X, JBL Club 6500C, Power Acoustik XP2K-4102, Coustic Power Logic HT-612 in a BP4.

Exactly, Mr. State Inspector, there's no airbag problem at all... Haha.  It was the 5th dot on the bottom.

Damn, really wish I wouldve built a driver's side port.  That way I could block of the 4th sub hole and play around with just 3 subs and more box volume.  I dont think I would get good response by removing a sub from a center slot port design like mine.  Life lessons.
