Second Skin
Second Skin being utilized in building construction??? Not everyone understands Second Skin Insulation is designed and used in many more industries then Car Audio. Unfortunately, industrial builds and construction crews rarely share pics with us...but we got these AWESOME pics today from GDV Homes installing 2 big rolls of Luxury Liner Mass Loaded Vinyl in one of their current home/office builds. The owner wanted it to be dead quiet inside their room even if the husband was up working. 1/8" thick Mass Loaded Vinyl is one of the best barrier layers available to block out sound. We have industrial clients who use it in elevator shafts, Dr. offices, coin counting machines, and even professional sound recording studios (we are waiting on pics of a very awesome build in Hollywood sometime this year). Keep your eyes on our social media pages and on your TV for an upcoming build showcase from the land of entertainment. So next time you have a noise or heat issue inside your home, office, or garage think outside of the car and try American made Second Skin insulation for all your construction needs...This ain't your grand daddies sound deadener!!! #SecondSkinUSA #SecondSkinAudio #SecondSkinInsulation #SecondSkinForTheWin 4 Quote Whether you are restoring a classic muscle car, building an audio system monster, or trying to give yourself a bit of silent luxury on your daily commute, we have a product or combination of products that will help you achieve your goals while saving money and save time. SnowDrifter
That's wild Wonder what the noise reduction is. I know there are a lot of variables, but is there an estimated dB@frequency reduction that's expected to be offered? You are correct, every project has different variables that will affect the outcome of the sound transmission. Here is the Sound Transmission Loss test for Luxury Liner Mass Loaded Vinyl 1 lb/ft² attached to this post. It can also be seen on our product description page here (every 3 dB drop is cutting the perceived sound in half) Edited May 8, 2018 by Second Skin 1 Quote Whether you are restoring a classic muscle car, building an audio system monster, or trying to give yourself a bit of silent luxury on your daily commute, we have a product or combination of products that will help you achieve your goals while saving money and save time. Broke_Audio_Addict
Interesting. Could this be used underneath a floating floor as well? Any worries about it meeting code or being fire safe or any other things like that? Quote That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. Second Skin
All of our products meet or exceed all auto/air/rail/marine/construction fire standards. This product is used monthly in builds for Dr. Offices, hospitals, and elevators so I we've never had an issue not being allowed. As far as code goes, that would be determined by your location and what they allow. In 19 years of manufacturing we have never ran into an issue with a construction build customer being denied application of a sound barrier (that doesn't mean the installers were all doing things legal, it just means we have never ran into that issue. California has very strict laws of materials that can be used, and that is where the recording studio is being built, and I know they had to get every material approved for there building plans). We've never installed a floating floor lay out, I see no issues with it though, a barrier layer just needs to be between you and the noise to block it. If you can achieve that in a floating floor, then it is possible (It doesn't need to be attached to do it's job of blocking sound).
