I have a basic stereo with two 12" MTX Thunder 3Ks, and I'm thinking of building two different boxes for them.. maybe a box with the two woofers... I like this idea. tube cost $9 something at Lowes for the 12" by for 48. it says 12" but it is more like 13" in diameter. really cheap materials needed. only thing really expensive was the plate amp i'm using but thats only $60 from partsexpress. and I can tell you, this sub will rival any sub up to $300. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.

Well like i said, im just experimeting with this design and I did not really calculate the enclosure's dimension and tuning using t/s parameters of the woofer. I just used my mediocre skills/experience with car audio guestimated on everything. I tuned it real low (23hz) aiming for better SQ and it seems like i just got lucky and it really sounds good. You can probably try using WinISD to design cylinder type of enclosures. There are also lots of info on the web, juz type in "sonotube sub" on google. If you got a video camera, you should make a short clip for us to hear

Forevrbumpn Posted October 2, 2008 Report Posted October 2, 2008 Those particular tubes are flimsy, Ive used them before, and they resonate horribly after a few tries, I decided to resin them after that, no more issues There is actual BRAND Sonotube that is more solid, and durable, but the quickrite brand, or whatever is a little flimsy for subwoofers. White cap is good too but they are definitely fun to practice on I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
