Fish Chris Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Damn, I dunno' about you guys, but it's not even about the subs, or amps being warmed up.... It's more about my ear drums being warmed up ! When I first get into a vehicle, and turn the stereo on, it's going to sound louder, at a lower level anyway. Then, as my ears get used to it, I turn it up a little more. Then later I play a song, or part of a song, that I really like, and I turn it up some more. So by the time I get out of the car, it might be louder than shit, but it's okay, as long as my ears had gotten used to that level first.... Hmmmm..... Is this just me ? Peace, Fish
Gotloud555 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 so subs do get stiffer at colder temps then, its not just subs almost anything made from menerals get more brittle in a colder climate than ina warmer climate its not just how loud they play but how efficent they will play it, the glue around the voice coil atached the the cone n spider will get brittle and ive seen many subs fail at that point from cold weather cause when its stiffer they turn it up louder and then wam, or cone cracks, i think it depents on what meterials the sub or speaker is made from verses what db it is to what affects will happin to em, i think when its colder the fs will go higher so the sub wont play as low as they would when there warm, hence why ppl like to "break in" subs to be louder kinda like warming up, ied just take it easy on em till they warm up tho, i think we need input from someone like rusty or sundownz or polekat who make speakers to see what there input is, ied like to see a cold sub tested to a warm sub n see what its boundrys would be I would agree most of the stuff you say there because cold weather do affect sub but depend how cold it's. If too cold the sub might be stiff around the cone and spider. I usually don't play sub in cold conditon weather so take them out untill summer.
Toxiccasper Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Then you better not play your speakers either because they are made from very similar materials
etaks_crew Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Someone was telling me that a rubber surround would crack easier than a foam surround in the cold. But I have rubber surrounds and I've bang and over powerd my subs going on the 3rd or 4th winter and no prblems from the cold yet (except the whole voltage drop thing winter does strian the battiers more)
Charger Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Cold is better for your equipment. Top competitors use dry ice in strategic places to keep equipment even colder, I've seen it work. Boon Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 well if u look at a battery they have more cold cranking amps than regular cranking amps so that makes u assume that ur electrical pulls more current when its cold than hot so maby thats why, i always let my truck get warm befor i turn my stereo on, if it aint warm enulf for me i aint playin my stereo till my truck warms up to atleast around 60degrees somewhat Wrong, fail. Batteries have LESS CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) than warm cranking amps. Your battery is a chemical reaction. Chemical reactions go faster/better when you make them hotter. Thus your battery works a little worse when it's cold, so it's easier to hit clipping on your amps. Amps/subs/wires are more efficient at low temps, batteries are better at higher temps, as long as you don't start to affect the internal resistance too much. 10.x volts fo' life!
Beckett Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 i find my type-r better and feel it more in the hot summer. atm because it's winter and cold outside i jus don't find it as loud, can't feel the bass as much as when it's warm outside i hate it i miss loving my bass lol. i'm only ona bout feeling the bass, not numbers on the termlab JS Fraser *Alpine Typr-R 12" *JBL GTO 1200.1 Sub Amp *Alpine PDX-4.100 *Rockford Fosgate Power 6.5's *Rockford Fosgate Fanatics 6.5's Both in front doors *0/1 Guage wiring from front Junction Boxes to 120AH Battery In Boot (battery removed because too small for alternator) *140 Amp HO Alternator *Alpine Head Unit -------------------------------------------------------------------------x------------------------------------------------------------------------------
