MECHMAN Posted March 2, 2009 Report Share Posted March 2, 2009 12.4 is not that bad, My advice is a 2nd alt. I imagine your asking 300A+. I know u have a mechman alt but I doubt it does 150A at idle. Probably not more then 150A max with slippage. So if at idle it is at 14.4, then the alt runs out at 150A (or less probably) the it's just battery after that. When the battery is not on a charger should sit around 12.6-12.9. So after that alt runs out of current how can u expect the voltage not to drop to 12.4 when pushed. Not a bad number .4 off what the battery sits at and your suprised? lol For that amp, I say it's normal. If it stayed at 14.4 then u would not be putting on much power. It takes current to make power. That is a pretty good way of putting it. Our alts are strong at idle, but even at 150 amps you need a lot more than that to prevent voltage drop. Those D3100's should rest out around 13.2 volts when fully charged, so you might try throwing a battery charger on them overnight just to "top them off." Down the road if you are still needing more juice, we could convert your alt to adjustable voltage so you could crank the voltage up to compensate some for the drop. It won't provide all of the current you need, but it would definitely help, plus you could get a little hotter charge on your batteries in-between songs. With battery voltage that low, make sure you give that alt a few minutes to chatch back up between songs, otherwise you could overheat it.
