EricR
i was thinking leave the 12 sitting in the box in the hole and duck tape from the bottom of the sub to the bottom of the baffle so the sub doesnt free air. would that work?

Jville140db
I could give a fuck less what meade uses in his box. he also used 5gallons of fiber glass and a shit load of 2x4's. and any "true" competitor doesn't use wood buddy ply wood kicks mdf's ass mostly because it is actual wood not glue and dust wow didn't expect that kind of attack and by the way not to sound like an ass but all the top spl competitors use some form sealer weather it be resin or mat then resin, again if i could id build my boxes out of 3/4in plexi but hey to each his own thats all im gonna say ive always used mdf and thats what i was taught to use but again to each his own Car is 2010 Scion Tc Currently in car Deck- Sony XAV-60 in-dash mobile video system Speakers- Rockford Punch 6.5in comps in the front and coax in the rear Subs- 2 Gen 3 Rockford P3 12's dual 4 ohm Amps- Rockford P1000-1bd and P400-4 Alpine Mrp-f300 is in for P400-4 which is out to service Wiring- all rockford nuff said Enclosure- Dual 12in custom box by SRQ Battery- Optima Yellow top with big 3 done Sound Damping- All Dynamat products 1-2 layers throughout with liner on top Link to my build log- http://down4sound.co...=newpost&t=5275 Link to my youtube- http://www.youtube.c...ser/Jville140db MECP Advanced CEA # 110531 BassBox 6 Pro for Box Building/Re audio box calculator If you can hear the passenger it aint loud enough!!!!!!! korey_hofer
the real competitors use concrete and stone and I have seen glass as well I had a piece of 1" ply wood 20" wide 70" long I layed it across my ditch and drove my truck over it didn't even crack try that with mdf previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme. Boon
MDF is nicer to work with a router. Good plywood is stronger, lighter and less likely to blow out/split/whatever. Cheap plywood and cheap MDF are both shit. It's horses for courses. MDF is more dead, no doubt about it. It's just a density thing. 10.x volts fo' life! It's just a density thing. almost exactly what i was going to say. i like working with mdf more than plywood. it rounds over a lot smoother. but i most likely had some crap plywood too. not a ton of places to get wood where i live, so home depot is my one stop shop. so i usually just go with mdf. it's also half the price of the plywood they have there
kingsuv
Not all plywood is created equal. Cabinet grade Oak or Birch > MDF any day Depending on the Box your building the benefits of a good Ply don't out weigh the extra cost. If you are building big heavy boxes that require extra strength then go with a good ply. Most of the boxes I have done as of late have been several sheets and boxes weighing 6-800 lbs As far as sounding different, you won't notice much if any difference to the sound. I have noticed that my tuning is a little higher then MDF. using the right tools to do the job will help with any splintering as well as cutting face side down on the saw. All it takes is a little more skill to work with real wood Designing, building, and shipping boxes. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
