In your experience with the GP is there enough room in that trunk to pull off 15's or is it smarter to stick with 10's or 12's? Going to be looking at 1000-2000w rms. My buddy is trying to talk me into skipping the custom box build and just going one 12w7 in h/o jl box, he claims he's seen a blazer do 150 with that setup I think 2000w test tone though. I told him it sounds great to me but not sure how that box will do in my trunk, I'm not spending 800 bucks on one sub and box just to hit 140 ya know. Any advice is helpful and appreciated.

w7 in there box is def not the way to go IMO, especially the box part...still need lots of power if you want some high scores in a GP. but thor is your man, no homo, he does work.

Please don't buy the JL ho box. It is okay but not worth all the money they charge for it. The W7 is a decent woofer but I have a hard time believing that a single 12 and 2K watts in that box could do a 150 on the dash. It may do a 150 in the kick with the door open, but no way on the dash sealed in a JL prefab with 2K watts. I could see that woofer and 2K watts doing a 150 in a custom ported box on a burp.

I don't know the car that well, but from seeing them in person and also seeing the size box that Rob has in his car I'm sure you could fit 15's if you really wanted them, but it would be a better idea to run 10's or 12's. That way you aren't trying to fit bigger than you can and have no room for the enclosure to breathe. I had an issue like that in my ZX3 where a single 15 was louder than 2 cause the box was blocking the pressure from getting to the front of the car.

I would suggest 1 15, 2 12's or 2 10's. Theres really not enough room to let the 15's breath properly. As far as subs for the price of 1 jl 13w7 you could get a pr of xl 10s or 12s that will own anything jl makes. Plz dont listen to your friend trying to steer you away from custom boxes. All the loud vehicle have custom built boxes.

Seriously looking into the Alpine Type X 12 with the Alpine MRV1000 amp in a custom built box with a Kinetic Cap Killer battery. I heard a guy with a Malibu today, he had 1 Type X 12'' and a MRV 1000 on it. I couldn't believe my ears, one of the cleanest setups I've heard in years. Not sure what it does on the meter but I was seriously impressed with that set up. I can get everything, hu included for 950 shipped to my door, then I'd just have to build the box. For that price, all is included from hu, to wiring kit, battery amp and sub. Any good SQL box designs for that sub in a trunk?
