Has anybody had this problem with their 2001 tahoe?

Recommended Posts

My 2001 chevy tahoe started by making this weird click every time i turned corners, it was a loud metal to metal click. So i took it down to one shop so they can check it out, they found nothing. I then took it to a second shop, they found my body was flexing an uncommon thing. My ride is stock in height and has never been in a collision.

I was planning to install a drop kit, now that i found this problem im concerned of the cituation. Has anybody found themselves in this situation with body flexing or a similiar problem, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.I have posted some pictures, let me just add this happened to both sides towards the front of the fender.

Are they sure its the body? My dad had an issue with a clunking sound when cornering in his 2000, it was something with the tierods or steering box, something in steering system.

EDIT: Just took another look at the pictures, that does look bad, but verify thats where the noise is coming from.

are you the original owner?

no im not the original owner, im the second owner. I had the carfax info before purchase, but i guess theirs still a possibilty collision happened and never reported.

yes it is the body. I was at the second shop when they raised my tahoe with a HUGE shop lift, every time they lifted my hoe they showed me it was flexing and you could clearly see the clunking was from their, but it wasnt as bad as now, now their is no clunking because it broke loose.

yea i know, im gonna take it to a body shop to reweld that spot.

I 100% bet that your truck was in a MVA.... Aftermarket body panels are notorious for cheap thin ass metal, and cracks, just like your picture shows. Fuck carfax, in reality, maybe 20% of accidents will get reported officially, you know what I mean. Fix that shit right, and be careful, your battery is right there, and anything can arc on ya right there

That should never happen to any vehicle on the road and as newls said it was prolly in a major accident and really needs to be gone over with a fine tooth comb to make sure your frame isn't cracked and all mounting points arent' damaged in any way and intact.

I have never owned a Tahoe but I did have a Ford F 250 that had this Exact same break and it was caused by body flex do to a hair line crack in the frame between the cab and engine compartment.
