BassJunkie
what if I just use the ECC ram, would that work? Dale
what if I just use the ECC ram, would that work? Depends on your hardware....like your motherboard. ECC RAM is mostly used on server systems.
EricM9104
what if I just use the ECC ram, would that work? It should work. If I remember correctly I used to use ECC and non-ECC ram side by side. No problems except for restarting but that was when it was hot so I think the restart was heat problems. BassJunkie
Ok thanks guys, me and my bro just bought and split the price 4 256 sticks of ram on ebay, to fix up our "dinosaurs" aka old computers. I have my good computer, and I just have this one in my bedroom and if this works my old computer should be up to snuff pretty good. and fuck if it dont work, we'll resell it Quote 1986 C20 Suburban 9 American Bass XFL 15's B2 M1MKII 14v XS Power Batteries Maxwell Caps Acoustical energy is free. audiofanaticz
What type motherboard are you using. Your problom is most likely that your motherboard dont support ECC/parity ram. Im susprised that you couldnt find non ECC ram. non ecc is cheaper and faster by about 2% or I guess you could say that ECC ram is slower by about 2%, either way works. lol. When adding new memory, you should match what is already in your system. Adding non ECC memory to an ECC system will disable the error checking and correcting ability of your memory modules. While your system may still operate the enhanced features of the ECC ram will no longer be active in you computer. SO with that said, non ECC and ECC ram SHOULD work together, but you are just losing out on the error checking and correcting of the ECC ram (which means you are spending more for ECC when its not going to be working like it should). But in your case the ECC ram is not working with the non ECC or alone which leads me to believe that your motherboard is not ECC compliant. Maybe you could resell it on ebay, or sell it to the other person you bought it with for like 30 bucks or something so they have more. If they where 1 gig sticks I would be interested in the ram for my server, but I already got four 512 sticks in it so 256 would be pointless. Hope I helped a lil.
