it looks to me that the SMD woofer was made for a new generation, that loves power. as class d technology advances and power becomes cheaper to make, people will naturally want to use that available power. so if the amount of available power goes up but the amount of space in vehicles remains relatively the same.. that means something must change in a woofer. da da da da! SMD

the way i see it is this: the lvl 5, through years of testing research yadda yadda, it has begun to flirt with the limits of this generation of woofer.

the next generation of woofer is like the SMD. naturally since the SMD is the first of that generation it will inevitably be the worst.

what is being debated here is an overlapping of the two generations. two seemingly similar woofers that have totally different DNA.

ask any old fart on here (sorry guys ) and they will tell you about some low power woofer that was the shit back in its day. thats how things work. availability increases so consumption must increase also (in this case: available power vs. rms handling)

Sorry to rain on ur parade but the smd is basically a crossfire xs spl..... which ive herd is still a better sub than the smd, but thats a mute point because there is basically none of thoes subs exsist

So the smd is not exactly first made in its class im pretty sure memphis made a sub with two motor basket setps as well

If you were to find 5 vehicles with dcs and 5 with smds, and recored all their scores and then have them all switch subs and record again, average ther score and the one in the other car, that would determine,

I would make it "fairer" by taking people whoo had 3500 watts on am smd at 35hz and put him with a 3500 on a dc tuned to 35, and so on, im sure their are a few people even pushing more power then cj18 here, who has an amazing build ..... and im sure they would be more than willing to try it at a show

Fi is the oem for the crossfire... And there has been quite a few mods to the smd to make it better and more suited for a sq sub... Which alot of people are forgetting... I've never heard subs sound as good as them before...

im not comparing pro-audio to car audio as you would say. were talking about car audio subwoofers...so think before you type. talk about comparing apples to oranges

The SMDs will (I think they do honestly)... If by "better" you mean louder, then you might want to keep shopping.

I dont know how to clamp the amp nor do I have the meter to do it. If yall will tell me how and what I need to do it I will. and yes the SMDs would be tested at 7k and the LVL 5s at 4k
