New Sundown 8" Frame in the works

Recommended Posts

That thing loooks sick! Will the spider allow for 35mm of throw?

Yes -- and so will the frame.

Depending on the model woofer the motor may not be designed for 35mm one-way as it requires alot of depth to achieve and most folks with 8s don't want an 8" depth as well, haha.

Its great to see a company owner/designer/genius sharing info like this. Its very interesting to see the design process...from concept/drawing/prototype/etc. Thanks for sharing! Looks like this is gonna be a BEAST!

How much if that 35mm of throw will be used?

The Neo-8 can move up to 36.75mm before bottoming out in the motor... linear x-max is around 25mm but it can move the coil right up to suspension limits.

Ferrite 2.5" coil design can move up to 38mm before bottoming out in the motor... linear is around 19mm but again it can move the coil right up around 30mm one-way before leaving the gap.

The basket makes this woofer look a lot like a tiny SMD (or LMS Ultra, etc- it just resembles the big 6-spoke). Obviously the motor will be hugely different, but still B)

Is it me, or does the design of the basket look like it prevents inverted mounting? I'm referring to the little ridges that protrude out on the outside edge near the screw holes- am I right?

EDIT: Oh wait....kinda forgot about dem gaskets.
