I have indeed tried rubber surrounds back when i had team xl motors. They worked great but had to short of usable throw and I would pull it off the cone every burp. The reinforced surrounds are foam with a nylon interweave and thin rubbery type outer layer.

I just want to point this out... Cody said Moral of the story is, if you dont have a reactive ohm load of 1 ohm, the amp will protect and it will put out 0 watts. This is a true statement. Quite trying to pick apart and bash him for good info. O.P. You can expect rated as long as your reactive is above .8. Anything less than that and the amp does go into protect.

Have you checked sub output on deck to see if its turned off? lol thats happened to me before lol

Best bet us to either tape them so they can't short or try and get shrink wrap around them,split down middle then tape.
