Todays negative terminal failure: Positive failure from 8 months ago: Both failed I-bars:
-
One year ago I installed an S3400 with I-bars. Only 4 months later, in July, I was a thousand miles from home when my car wouldn't start. The battery rested at 13 volts. So what was wrong? Turns out the Positive terminal had broken loose from the I-bar. The threads were not stripped, they were intact. But a lead nut had been pulled out of the I-bar and was sitting loosely in place, giving intermittent continuity and open circuit. So I got that fixed by attaching my cables directly to the battery terminal rather than the I-bar. I figured it was a fluke thing and haven't had any other problems with my I-bars until yesterday. So last night I was on my way home and was bumpin' along watching my voltage gauge. When I stopped at a red light I Saw my voltage drop to 10.4!!! But it went back up pretty quickly and I went on my way. But tonight I was about to leave work and the car wouldn't start. I immediately popped the hood and checked the terminals. I couldn't tell that anything was loose and the car started up again and got me home charging at 14.44 give or take a bit. So I got home and checked the terminals again and the Negative terminal was loose so I wiggled it a bit and it popped right out just like the positive terminal had done months earlier. So now within 1 year of purchasing and installing my I-bars, both have failed and nearly left me stranded twice. Very disappointing.

You can pry off the spider with a flat screw driver, or chisel. It should separate fairly cleanly. Check out YouTube to see how others recone subs. There are tons of helpful demonstrations.

Yeah I meant a regular soldering iron. Try just melting the glue around each screw.

Does that sub have a spacer that is held in by those screws? I'd try a hot soldering iron to see if softens the glue.

Phase cancellation: The relationship in time of two or more waveforms with the same or harmonically related periods gives us a measurement of their phase difference. Phase cancellation occurs when two signals of the same frequency are out of phase with each other resulting in a net reduction in the overall level of the combined signal. If two identical signals are 100% or 180 degrees out of phase they will completely cancel one another if combined. When similar complex signals (such as the left and right channel of a stereo music program) are combined phase cancellation will cause some frequencies to be cut, while others may end up boosted. You can google it more if you want. I would try the port flip though.

Cancellation caused by the waves being out of phase... crap man, I don't know how to explain it... I fail. If you had the car sitting in the sun while it was charging and cabin heated up, I would expect that to cause a drop on TL. To get consistent results and honest results, you have to eliminate all the variables possible. At that point it becomes scientific.

If you neglect them for too long they'll begin to suffer from chronic depression, even suicidal thoughts. It just isn't fair to deny them of their potential. And doing so, can lead to irreparable emotional distress. -
