  1. Rambling here...operating d class sub amps at low ohms is considered an inefficient use of power on the output side of the amp. I often times sold and installed two dvc 4 ohm woofers with a 2 channel amp that did 400 rms at 4 ohm bridged and if you compare it to a 400 watt rms 1 ohm stabled d class sub amp, you may be more efficient with the use electrical power, but the d class amp has 4 times the current running through the speaker wires. The 2 channel usually sounds punchier too... operating at a much higher output voltage. Power is not always Power.
  2. Youngsters.... Running a sub free air is perfectly fine if the manufacturer rates their sub for free air. Many subs can be used as free air subs. Free airing was often done in the sq world amd I have heard it done with excellent results. Although it is not the most efficient use of the driver, it will work in some cases and do well, considering. It really is all about suspension and whether it can handle it. Free airing actually allows the sub to cool very well and thermal failure is less likely than use in a ported box operating near resonant frequency. Using reverse phase is completely subjective. Running a sub 180 out of phase is merely the same as switching pos and neg speaker leads... Altering a sub phase is nice to help blend the the rest of the bass repsonse from the mids with the sub. I prefer variable phase shift, but you can't always get everything you want. Too small of speaker wire is surely not the issue when running 300 watts rms... very little current in those wires. You are more than likely smellnig sub coil. Turn your gains down. Loudness isnt helping. 16 gauge wire is more than fine for any dcr load of 2 ohms and up at that power level. The only thing putting bigger wire is doing is delivering more power to your sub... it is already seeing too much, so again, watch your gain and vulume knob
  3. That is very dissapointing. The obsidian 18 will sell very very well. Sure wish Sundown would follow suit. Price point near 250 shipped for an 18 and I am not talking FI ssd garbage either... My JL 6.5s had a bigger motor than those ssds had... with better cooling
  4. To see a similar response, you may want to tune deeper or enlarge your enclosure, but for the most part, I think you will still be fine with it.
  5. I couldn't do it if it was my only ride. This is how I feel after growing older... I did not used to feel this way.
  6. Solar panels produce very very little current and even if they covered the car, they would not be able to run even the smallest of amps that anyone of us would use for a bass amp. Technology is growing and they ae getting much better, but the cost of new technology is as always, through the roof. No matter if you used a step down voltage module or reproduced excess 12v power through a generator run off the vehicle's drivetrain, it would effectively reduce the range of the electric car. The car could use the braking energy to recharge as some hybrids have been doing for years, but under typical forward motion (not deaccelerating), any charging effect would be offset by the power consumed to turn the wheels (generator) and move the vehicle forward. In other words, it is the law of conservation of energy and the first law of thermodynamics. No true perpetual motion machine exists, in this case becuase of friction of moving parts and heat transfer (loss). You would expel more of your battery power trying to run an auxillary generator with mechanical and thermal losses than simply pulling off your origal power source. Either could be done to power a larger stereo, but once again, at cost of range of the electric vehicle. "Dude, my shit bumps hard as hell, but I can't bump it too hard or we are'nt going to make it back to the house."
  7. I have an 18" havoc in a dual 2 ohm coil. PM me if interested
  8. Are these intended for very small sealed enclosures. I have always dreamed of a nice woofer that will give a decent amount of low output in a sealed box, but they are rare.
  9. The new Z.v3 will have both of the shorting rings as well, correct?
  10. Products: Memphis Car Audio Power reference PR1X500 Class D Amp Specs: Rated at 500x1 rms @ 1 ohm, but has a birth sheet reporting 621 Condition: Amp is brand new, never used. Comes complete with all original eveything and gain knob. Price: Shipped anywhere in the lower 48 is $225 Pictures:
  11. X line..... bah.... bring on the fruckin' Zv.3 damnit!!!!!
  12. Hell of a lot of house for 300K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A house like that in Oxford Mississippi would cost at least that much. That's right, I said MISSISSIPPI!!!!!! All of you who think that is high, you need to re-orient your real estate compass. Now, that HOA shit is a bunch of
  13. If you're going to nut-hug, atleast give a legitimate reason.. I agree, but what do you really expect to hear when you post this in the sundown section? BTW, sundown kicks ass... I just so happen to have some 3500's for sale. I owned the previous mc4kw and the mc1.4000 and all I have to say is My sundown 3500 cost less and performed better. My 1.4000 cut off even at 1ohm. Both the 4kw and the 1.4000 got smoking hot quick. The gain knob didn't even work right on the 1.4000. I dont know where you are finding them for that price either. I sold my 1.4000 for 800+shipping USED!!!!! Have you seen the price of these things new?
  14. If you are so worried about Jacob, remember the big picture. More threads = more hype and exposure about his products. It is promoting his business and putting a few extra bites of food on his dinner plate. I know your huge builds kinda help the Sundown Rep a little as well...
  15. Btw, you can post your answer if you want to, but I pretty much already know all your possible answers and your most likely ones. I really don't care for any of them becuase you won't be telling me anything I don't already know. Truthfully, Jacob should spend his time getting those 18's out to you so you can bend the doors open on the van, but I would love it if the Zv.3 project moved a little quicker too! I am not trying to start anything or piss you off. These are just truths and observations.
  16. Just stirring the pot... What is so wrong with that? I always see the same response from you when someone asks for a Sundown update... You have solid reasoning to respond with "How bout wait for Jacob to post a thread with updates???" Conversely, I have never seen you jump in with the same reasoning and responses towards members with the exact same inquiries, posts, and demands for more, info, pics, ect on your build logs. Why is that?
  17. Quit raining on my parade How about a cutout view of the motor? How about the New Magnet Boot? How about the new Coils? How about the new Back Plate? How about the new surrounds he was thinking of tooling?
  18. Jacob, you and your factory are too slow. I am ready for Zv3 15's now. What's the hold up? Don't tell me it will be another 6 months! That is a crime against humanity. Anyways... ETA? News? More teaser pics? Delays? Random thoughts? I will take any response with the phrase, "Sundown Zv3 15's" in it... Whatchya got?
