  1. dont take this the wrong way but my favorite part of this so far is your tires lol I love my duratracs!
  2. damn, i was worried it was the amp. Ill be calling dbr here shortly then to see what they say, thanks SnowDrifter
  3. did this every get resolved? I think I am having a very similar issue now...
  4. just noticed the port length/inner box opening thing. I would just take that one inch off of the port length on the inside and then make a big roundover. Tuning will be pretty much the same and you wont be restricting air flow...hope that made sense lol
  5. i can say your xls should be very happy with that box. It is very similar to my wall but slightly smaller in volume which should give you a bit more cone control down low which will be nice since you are running a bit more power than me. To the ear (no TL near me that i know of) it crushes everything from 25hz to the mid 50s very flat and then trails off slowly above that, you should be happy. As everyone says though, brace the hell out of it. I would add port bracing for sure as well as another brace going side to side. My entire wall is double layered birch on all sides including the port as well as threaded rod thoughout and the box vibrates obviously but there is no flex anywhere, something to consider i guess
  6. WHEN I RAN THEM THEY DID FINE THERMALLY ON 800 A PIECE BUT MET MECHANICAL LIMITS QUICKLY BELOW TUNING CAPS, CAPS, CAPS!!!
  7. Just wanted to say thank you for an amazing product at an amazing price! Got my DD-1 a few weeks ago but just got around to putting it to use and the results are great! I bought this to make sure when I upgrade my amp to a Sundown 3500, I wouldn't be clipping my xls. But i figured I would throw it on the system now and see what happened. I was actually very surprised by my equipment's abilities and i would have never realized it without the DD-1! I found out that my Hifonics Titan 1508D is distortion free with the gains almost all the way up (maybe an 1/8 of a turn before maxed out) at 35/35 volume and +10 subwoofer boost on the Alpine 9887. System is way louder now...but of course has more voltage drop. Anyways, thought I would put in a good word. Clean signals FTW
  8. looks like a good start! People will give you shit for using sony subs but if it does work out well it will be impressive, get moving on this!
  9. not sure if this is still getting updated but... mrd6 Washington Seattle 98105/ Redmond 98053 (depending where i'm at) DD-1
  10. Build a new ported box. It will be the easiest, best way to get louder.
  11. sub is a beast and a work of art. With the right box and power you won't be disappointed
  12. For that price, I don't think you could go wrong. Unless you are trying to provide ALOT of power and have minimum space I would be willing to bet this is your better option.
  13. How much space is there? What are your max dimensions for the box?
  14. If you have to give the color theme a name it should be The Hulk! Not Barney lol. But seriously, its hard to say without really knowing what the rest of the interior is going to look like. I would probably still go black if it were me.
  15. if you aren't looking for a super tweeter these sound amazing. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=264-1012 I am yet to use them in a car but they are my go to for home audio and I am considering replacing the tweets in my car with these vifas soon
  16. Mixing of subs aside, do a bit of research and see what options you have out there for alts. $150 is not a bad price at all if it is reliable with warranty. It is likely you may still see some dimming with that size alt depending on your battery under the hood, but it also may be a big price jump to get any larger alt than that 130 so you'll have to decide how much it is worth to you to get rid of that last bit of dimming. You are not running that much power though so I would double check all your power and ground connections and then do the big three to see if this helps enough for you. The big three will help on its own and is necessary if you get a new alt so you should do that first either way, thats how I would do it anyways. good luck! edit: i feel you on the dumb alternator placement. I just replaced mine and had to remove the front tire to get at it through the wheel well...wtf?
  17. Hi Guys, I have been planning to buy a crescendo bc3500 for my build and would be spending about $600 for that shipped to 98105. I am looking for approximately 3500 to 4000rms (more if the price is right lol) to power my dc xls. Subs are dual 1 ohm. If anyone can offer me similar power for less than $600 I would be very interested! I also have a couple things to trade (if i cannot offer trades due to my post count being less than 150, mods let me know and ill remove that, I checked the rules but didn't see anything about it) anyways things to trade: -2 Re audio SEx 15s -pioneer DEH-P3100Ub head unit with ipod cable (never use still in box opened once to look at it) -Garmin Nuvi 255wt GPS (still in box never opened) has lifetime traffic, works in canada and all that stuff Thanks! Also looking for batteries for a good price
  18. The bash plate amps are not bad at all. Another option is the dayton audio plate amps, last i checked the 240w version was on sale for $98 on parts express. I bought one when they were $150 a year or so ago and it is a solid amp still on sale: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-804
  19. what car is this going into? Is it a wall? Or box for the back of an SUV?
  20. oh okay interesting. Good info guys. It would be nice to find someone in the Seattle area who runs PA stuff in their car in a sq orientation but its pretty hard to find anything half way decent car audio wise here these days. Haha know anyone?
  21. good to know guys, i appreciate the responses! looks like i may be giving it a try here in the near future for some reason i have this idea in my head that they will sound less natural on more laid back or acoustic music and miss some of the subtle nuances in more complex music. Would you say this is not the case?
  22. reading comments on things like these always piss me off and i almost want to sign up to straighten them out. The one that got me is where they said people who have these systems are dumb lowlifes...how does a stupid person with no money engineer, build, and afford a $20,000 sound system capable of that? But then a think about the kind of people that actually post on yahoo news articles and i realize no matter what i say to them they will remain ignorant morons haha sorry if any of you post on yahoo articles, no offense lol
