  1. Everytime I see that, the excursion makes me want to build a biger system and the LV interior makes me puke a little in my mouth.
  2. For clarity, they're rated for 600W/ea, correct? Guess I SHOULD order one to replace my RF, and put the AQ1200 down to 1ohm Nice vid!
  3. +1 Adminstrative leave? I HATE when cops, teachers (Seems to be a union thing) get that after acting like a dick.
  4. Wow. I really love watching Tosh.O, but have never been embarrassed of being Irish before just now.
  5. The idea is funny, but it appears the boss couldn't give a f*#k which is also funny. "Geee, Where will I ever find another highly motivated dishwasher?"
  6. In my past life as an auto detailer (read; before kids) I had great results from Lexol products, but they're hard to come by except for online. The "brand name" products most ocmmonly available such as Mothers and MEguiars fall into the 'watch out for' products mentioned in the posts above.
  7. If I were you, I'd calculate how much 1/0 I would need to re-wire the whole car with 1/0, AND add a ground run from front to back, AND do the big 3, then sit back and watch my amazingly flat voltage supply crank out clean, loud tunes without stressing my car's elctrical system as badly. FWIW I was impressed with adding the big 3, but even more impressed with adding the F-R ground run.
  8. Dude needs to learn difference between OSB and playwood.
  9. The Alpine CDA-117 has a USB dongle input specifically for that. It can search by artist/song/album but it's not the most intuitive to use. I have a 16GB USB card anout 55% full and it's had no issues with it. The SQ is just amazing using USB input.
  10. FWIW I'd be surprised if it were discernably louder. Like you said, SQ might improve but is it worth the change?
  11. ran those before too, great bulbs, brightest whitest you'll get w/o HIDs Silvertars are good as far as bulbs go, but they didn't hold a candle to the PIAA Intense white bulbs I had prior to that. (*PIAAs have a great bulb warranty. You drive a burnt-out bulb to the dealer and they give you another one on the spot. My car eats bulbs and I replaced so many I actually got sick of replacing even the free ones, so I went back to stock. Not PIAAs fault...) Sitting next to HID-equipped cars, our light color was similar but they had me on output. Amazing bulbs.
  12. How do you have 6 alpine 4ohm 5x7 speakers powered by an Alpine HU? Is the HU rated for 2 ohm loads? If not, it might have put up with the load for a while, but has had enough.
  13. Sure. A solid week of sitting on the john next to the tub, not sure which end would erupt next, in between stomach cramps that made me double over & fall to my knees. It was awesome. I don't eat Chinese food from food court vendore where it just sits there pre- prepared anymore.
  14. Although it's not difficult to bend one of each of the wires back so it can be taped (I don't see any shrink) "straight"... Looks like the joints could have used more heat to suck in the solder. Not a lot of people know this unless they've seen it done, or have had electronics training. It's still a better joint than a butt connector, so I suggest an 'A-' for caring enough
  15. Another good link if it isn;t merely HU induced: http://www.termpro.com/articles/howto.asp?ID=121 Wayne Harris has forgotten more about car audio than I'll ever learn.
  16. Wow- you're sure doing your homework! I've always preferred a coincident point source for mids & highs, so I like to keep the mids & tweets together. Whether that's up on the pillar or in kicks is up to you. The midbass is far more omnidirectional, so in the doors makes sense to me. Can't wait to see your progress! (and smart on you for the Q-logics; making nice kickpanels is a PITA if your time is limited)
  17. IMO if you're after pure SQ you can't beat kickpanels. I don't get the console speaker idea unless you have major SPL and just need more mid/highs to keep up, but maybe that's just me (I did see those were Hertz comps in those pics, but the placement??)
  18. Adding kicks is a great idea. With a truck the mids are so far down and away from you any pair would have a hard time keeping up with a lvl 5 18. If you added a set of kicks and wired your mid amp down to 2 ohm stereo you'd have just as much juice to 2 paris of mids instead of 1, with 2x more cone area. Q-logics are pretty cheap and very easy to install neatly. My $.02

  20. The Alpine interface is really easy and intuitive. I had a Panasonic that I could NO Tfigure out w/o the manual, and am happy to be going back to Alpine after the Pana motorized screen stoppped ejecting CD's. If you have any ?'s, use the Crutchfield advisors- they're really good, and quick at getting back to you.
  21. I'd vote 'Not a good idea'. Just grab some caps & coils and fab a passive set of crossovers yourself.
