  1. Extra voltage capacity. but less capacitance, id be curious as to the voltage drop with just 6 cells per bank Yep, its a trade-off. BigD had a post where he stated he wanted to test amps up at 17V, so the extra cap was needed. I suppose he's fine with it as-is, if he's not even dropping a volt. We shall see....
  2. THIS! My home town has a coal mine with 6 of these: They only cost $1M each... and yes, those front wheels can turn 90 degrees so the truck can pretty much turn on a dime. This is an actual pic of one of then at the mine. Can haul about 200 tons and reach about 50 mph. Yep, I think they could handle a few of those Mechman's... Gross power at 1750 rpm: 1268kW (1700 hp)
  3. Impressive!!! I had a 90 Accord from '96 - '04. I think that Diamondboxx shook the mirror more then the two 15's I had in the trunk......
  4. Whoa...awesome idea! By far the most generous forum I've ever seen. Can't wait to see this play out. Good luck to those that enter and hopefully we can see some build pics once they get the prize!
  5. Earliest memories are vinyl. Folk's had a huge cabinet that had a record player inside when you flip open the top. I remember listening to a compilation record with "Take This Job and Shove It" by Johnny Paycheck (David Allen Coe)..... You recall those weird Christmas gifts from Grandma, well one of mine was this, the first music I ever owned: Yep.......Culture Club. Can easily say I was a bit blown away opening this present as a little kid... As for the first music I ever bought myself, that was a cassette and it was this one: That evolved into joining Columbia House and BMG and slowly acquiring a ton of rock cassettes which transitioned mostly into rap. Went to college in '92 and in the fall I stumbled onto somebody selling a used Teac CD player for $75. That allowed me to purchase my very first CD: Funny thing about that Teac CD player, it was a POS that would barely play CD's. It would ALWAYS throw an error code. But, strangely I had one CD that somehow would always play and would "fix" the error code: OK, I'm done. How's that for a musical story.......
  6. Yep not big on the name myself but you don't forget it do you..... No such thing as negative publicity, sometimes gets you more publicity. Can't fault them for that. As long as they perform.
  7. i had the Dukes of Hazzard lunch box . I was heart broken when my mom melted my thermos in the dish washer on that coil thing (now known as the element lol) on the bottom. Night rider here..... but, man, the nights spent on the bean bag, watching DOH, Chips, and others... man, time does fly......... Ahhh Man... I had the Dukes of Hazzard fold-able TV tray. One of my favorite shows, hell still one of my favorite shows. Still tune to it when I scroll though the channels.
  8. Another great video for troubleshooting noise in a system where conventional tools don't cut it. Very interesting to see the amps LED's not showing the distortion.
  9. Great video! Spreading the word out in Colorado on some facebook pages to hopefully convince some haters. We'll see. This shouldn't be taken as a dig on Alpine at all. Any consumer electronics company that produces equipment in the thousands to millions is going to see some component failures. Its just a given when things are produced at that level. This is a prefect example though of the true capabilities of the DD-1 vs an Oscope. Sometimes you can't always "see" the problem whereas a specified device that hunts for distortion comes in real handy!
  10. Bought an N64 in 1999 simply for GoldenEye alone. Best game ever... Damn...I have Conkers too, somewhere in a box. Need to find that. Holdin' down some petty good value...
  11. Cool find! Bernoulli's Principle. Cool seeing people implement things like this in everyday life.
  12. Depends on the LEDs (leaded / surface mount / etc) and how accessible they are. Also what color you want. Blue is much more expensive then the typical green. What device are you thinking?
  13. The LEDs I bought for Scott's 360.3 swap were a whopping $0.33 each. Odd colors and sizes are going to raise the price, but as long as they are parts that are used in high qualities in general consumer electronic products, the price will be CHEAP. Scott's LEDs were very bright orange so that raised the price. I also bought some basic orange LEDs for $0.046 each.
  14. Absolutely. Fairly easy mod. Scooter99 wanted the white LED in his 360.3 changed to orange so he sent it to me and I did a simple swap.
  15. The usual supercap used is the Maxwell 3000F 2.7V. 6 are required in series to be able to function in a 14V vehicle environment. The 3000F Maxwells are rated each at about 200A of max continuous current draw. Current in series is the same so a bank of 6 are still restricted to that ~200A (max continuous). 1900A peak. So to be safe, you'd want at least one bank for every 200A of current your system consumes. If you have an amp which draws 1000A, then 1000/200=5 banks would give you a very safe buffer. More banks will naturally give you more energy capacity. It's difficult to do an apples-apples comparison of batteries to caps as they are very different creatures. Batteries store TONS of energy while caps can store and release current very quickly. It also depends on what you use them for....burping or demoing. If in doubt..........just get 32 banks (192 caps) like AMI has....
  16. Caps can be drained all the way to 0V so you can't "kill" them by draining too much charge. They do have a rated life like anything else, but it depends on the the quality of the part and the usage it gets. I've tested normal electrolytic caps that are 30 years old and they tested out better then some new parts I've purchased. The two biggest enemies of caps are heat and over-voltage. Things should get very interesting in the next few months. A good competitor to Maxwell will be great for pricing....and to further drive the technology. Excited to see where this goes!
