Wife's first day at work, dog hit by car, stupid racism

This happened last night, but I wanted all the facts before posting...

So, my wife has been unemployed since we got here from Germany. She finally got a position with an internet nanny agency, more like babysitters for the rich. Good deal. Well she heads out for her first job last night around 5. She calls me at 7 saying she hit a dog on the way to work.

The dog was running on the sidewalk in the same direction wifey was driving. No leash, collar, tag or an owner in sight. The dog, a small one luckily, suddenly darts left in front of my wife and she hits. Not going that fast anyway, she gets out and tries to assess the dogs condition. The dog seemed okay, but wouldn't let my wife near him.

Another car stops and a lady gets out yelling at my wife. "You stupid wetback, I saw the whole thing. Thats my neighbors' dog and i'm a lawyer. Fucking beaners shouldn't even be driving". She the got in my wifes face and demanded her contact info. My wife is Mexican, and way too nice. Thinking she would be in trouble, she gave the bitch her name and cell. The racial slurs continue as the woman takes a blanket from the car and picks up the dog to go see a vet. That fucking cunt is so lucky I was not with my wife.

Anyway, this morning we went to report the incident to PD. It was called in by an anonymous passer-by, but because my wife stopped, hitting the dog is not criminal. BUT, the owner may be able to sue for vet costs, even though the dog was unleashed running around in the street. Now we are waiting to see if the owner decides to go that route. Its a bunch of BS. I don't really care if we get sued, we will win in court. What i'm heated about is the way the old white woman went on a racial rampage towards my wife, and blaming her for hitting the dog, when it just an accident. Freedom of speech is cool, but fuck that bitch, people like her shouldn't have the right.

that sucks.. I dont know what the rules are over there but here: Dog owners are liable for there dogs, even off leash. So if that dog would of caused your wife to wreck.. you could sue the owners. I dont think the owners can sue you for there dog getting hurt..

My buddy's dog got out and ran in front of a Harly, the guy could of sued but he didn't.

well, they can sue all they want. but that doesnt mean theyre going to win anything. first off, dont let fear affect your choices here. write down as much as possible, times, specifics, and have a very detailed accounting of the events in case the owner does decide to go the legal route. then get copies of the local law for pets on leashes and then counter sue the owner for damages to vehicles, pain and suffering, and a formal complaint against the neighbor. other than that, breathe in deeply and let it go.
