Class A CDL Tractor trailer driver/Heavy Equipment Operator/Welder

2 Jobs - Driver/Operator during the week at one place and a welder for a large steel shop on Saturdays and Sundays

For the driving portion of my job I move a 48' trailer(live floor) that gets loaded with demolition or trash. The asphalt part of it I pull flatbed trailers(Drop/double drop extended flatbed, low-boys etc) which are used to carry heavy heavy heavy machines. I have a super permit to carry excessive loads(over 103,900lb) and I'm constantly always hauling machines/parts of machines. For the past 6 months everything that I've moved has been over 150,000lb...it gets wild. I move the equipment and operate them on job sites/quarry's.

This job is extremely stressful at times...I was an absolute mess when I first started driving but you get the swing of things with lots of experience and patience. Between shutting roads down for wide loads, dealing with people on the road, always trying to make sure the police escorts know what needs to be blocked off/keeping distance(You'd be suprised, a lot of them don't pay attention around here and just wing it without asking questions)

A lot of patience, capable of dealing with an enormous amount of stress, accept the fact that you can kill so many people with a simple mistake and well a "Oh-Shit handle" to squeeze on when your brakes overheat every blue moon LOL....All in all, I love my job and i'm so damn lucky that at my age I got the opportunity to get accepted into a very respected company doing something new every day, having the right people around me and keeping a good head on my shoulder. Pays my bills, helps my parents out, put me in my own home, gets me toys and still some left to put away in the bank.

Yearly - 100/120k

The welding job is to blow off steam and relax, puts a few extra bills in my pocket and allows me to hone into my love for metal more and more.

Monthly $1200

Run my own contracting company. I have 3 college kid employees who do landscaping and snow removal. I do kitchen and bathroom remodels along with finish basements. Company has been in business for the last 6 years. I'm 26

Education needed? high school diploma, residential builders license and ability to talk to clients (I also have a Mechanical Engineering of Technology degree from Wayne State)

My guys each made between 10-15k last year mowing lawns, spreading mulch and all that stuff.

I pulled in $55k last year after all expenses and taxes. no retirement, healthcare out of pocket, and all the time fighting the "you're too young to know what you're doing, go back to school and get a real job" from people in my area. Gotta love the older generation lol.

I wouldn't trade my job for anything though. I love what i do. Just waiting on the fiance to graduate and get a job with healthcare and 401k lol
