Cuseikan
My box for my 2 orion h2 12.2's is tuned to 20hz and I can barley play any song without the fear of blowing a sub. I've heard of stories of guys with boxes tuned low, and they play a high tone and the subs just freez. I really can't feel the bass from anything above 40hz. I can just hear it. galacticmonkey
i used to have 3 15" alpine type Rs tuned to about 25hz and they blew all the time.
Pokey
I have a box for one Fusion NV-12 tuned to around 26-28hz. On the TL, it hit hardest at 33hz and it hit 143. I haven't had any problems hitting highs, even with the box being tuned so low. Though I did blow one within 2 weeks.

audiofanaticz
Yeah I do remember that episode where built their own sub that generated 156dB at 16Hz. That was one of the best mythbusters Ive ever seen. Although I think they could of had way better success with their build buy doing 2 things. 1) welding a rod to the woofer cone, and having a sleeve that the rod would of slid in and out of (kind of like how a voice coil slides in and out of the magnet), this would of helped stabalized the woofer cone, and most likely would or prevented it from falling apart. 2) porting the box, They pretty much had a sealed encloser from the bottom of the windows to the floor boards. And everyone knows a ported box is louder. With them doing those two things, I thought it would of been a way better build, and had much better results, but still was an amazing db level at 16 hertz! :^
Pokey
Oh yeah, 1 more thing... Iam a big Mythbusters fan, I LOVE THAT show. and the Brown Note, I really wish they had me do the testing, because those concert guys didnt know as much as they should have. Being surrounded by 24-36- 18" woofers playing a 7-9-11hz test tones, when the boxes are obviously tuned ALOT higher, like maybe 30-40hz, below that tunning freq, the speakers are only pushing out OUT OF PHASE USELESS AIR.... The sound waves were fighting eachother every way possible. 1) distance from the speaker was way off for 7hz tone, the effective sound wave length is about 40feet long, thats the 1/4 wave, not even the full wave length of 7hz to be effective. 2) Enclosed area, a warehouse would have been the best idea.... AND walled off from the envirnment, 40 feet long Basically saying, The brown note would be best tested in the opening port end of a 7hz t-line subwoofer enclosure.... Which is insanely huge I do believe the Brown note is possible, because I ALMOST experienced it one time, laying on a box with 2 15"s made out of a Ultra Light MDF, which was very flexible, vibrated my whole body, and got me very nasous (spelling) and made me want to vomit among other things Sorry about being so long, just had to get that off my chest Why don't you e-mail or write to Mythbusters and tell them how to do it correctly....offer to do it the right way and see if they'll let you show them that they screwed up the first time.....I wanna see this. meade916
if you tune your box to 16hz then plan on not listening to anything besides bass mechanic all day long and not even all the tracks.....you will definitly miss out on a lot of other material like that. You want lows in a car without sacrificing everything else then tune to 28-33. BTW: the mythbusters thing was 160 @16hz not 156 All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong! Forevrbumpn
still higher than that actually, 161 or 162 between there... I can find 20 things they could have done better at that sub. Main thing was the woofer, everything about it. Had more excursion than the surround would accept, the rod and pins were horribly built. Yes, ported, maybe a rubber damper between the rod and cone to keep abuse to a min to the cone/surround, on and on, and on.... Oh yeah, a larger car!!! a Van maybe?? hah Ive thought of what it would take to make a radiating panel woofer-wall, useing multiple or just 1 strong concrete/street vibrators(dunno what they are called) But that would work better than a damn driveshaft hooked up to a rod I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. meade916
im sure we would have all done something different but in the end no one in here or anywhere else has done a 160@ 16hz. i for one would have used a car with no sunroof....and the sub moving up and down in a straight line instead of locomotive action (for lack of a better way to put it) would have been better on the sub (or diaphram, whatever that thing would be called) All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel!
