BTW, when you mount woofers that close, you maximize mutual coupling . . . brief explanation HERE at the bottom of the page. Free output is always good . . . snafu Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Good question - mounting subwoofers as close together as physically possible promotes coupling. The clam shell box design will also promote maximum output, but not coupling. It's a phenomenon . . . just like drifting in NASCAR. It's also the reason why pro audio speaker cabinets are designed the way that they are. They are always as narrow as possible given the driver size chosen. This way, when you use them in clusters they will achieve mutual coupling. The next time you go to a BIG concert, notice how tightly packed the speakers are in each cluster. That's no accident.
