Well maybe one day they will come out with a smart amp that will adjust for clipping on the fly no matter what frequency it is at.

would be nice if it could adjust what people think are cool at that time as well. Have like a whats cool setting.. run amps at .5 and will even switch logo's with what ever amp is cool at the moment!

some good things to remember there drew.

the DD-1 also didnt make DMMs and scopes useless like some people seem to believe.

for setting gains it did. I will never ever use an O-scope to set another gain in my life.....

of course you wont. its your product, you own one, its simple, and it works. but for someone who doesnt own one or cant afford it, the "old" way still works just like it did before. thousands of people have tuned with a DMM and didnt blow up a sub. thats all im saying.

the dmm method is not accurate at all. If you try to set the gain on an amp that is overated and you try to tune it to the watts it claims it will clip. And if you try it on a underated amp you won't get full output.

DMM got my 12"s to 151db+. got two of my team mates over 160db. and a team mate's son to 160db no wall. your point is true, its not idiot proof or as simple and im not saying it better at all. it takes some experience to get right and you can mess it up. but it does work and, more over, was highly recommended by many users on this site the day before the dd1 came out. everyone was passing out the chart on how to tune with a DMM to every new member. it just baffles me that everyone seems to have forgotten that they used to personally recommend the DMM method.

and to charify so people dont over react. im not saying anything bad about the DD-1. it is a nice, simple, effective, tool and for many users, its the best option.

its not quite that good but my JL 4channel does do that. it has an anti clipping feature that kicks in automatically.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

"the dmm got my teamates a 160".....that doesn't mean it was correct. For all you know they could do a 161 by setting the gains properly instead of GUESSING. With the DMM, how do you know when the deck distorts? Just use the ol' 3/4 of the way trick? FYI: even the shittiest decks i have tried don't distort at 3/4.....some not at all. That is power left OFF of the table.

Before i learned how to even use a scope i used to tune by ear, AKA guess, and never had a problem getting into the 150's. Same goes for a lot of people. It worked but didn't mean it was right :)

for the avarge user the tool is awsome

i just want to know if it takes into acount the things i stated above

Have you ever had your woofers blown?

^^^ look hot dog a smart amp

hope all compaines dont do that all scopes and dd-1's will be a thing of the past

they didn't really show how it works, i wonder if they will have something in there that takes the DECK into consideration or this could be just another fancy clip light. Looks promising for them though. Good thing there is millions and millions of amps in the world that don't have that and millions more that won't have it......so the scope and the DD-1 don't have to worry any time soon. By then who know's, we may have the DD-4 out........or better yet, someone might buy our technology to PUT in the amp itself. We won't be out of business any time soon, there is too many shops out there that don't even know what a scope is and have never set a gain properly EVER, and i am witnessing (by the sales figures) a lot of them that NOW are doing just that. For the first time ever, they are not using their ears to set gains. Pretty sad i have seen it over and over again where they don't even have a scope and wouldn't know what to do with it even if they had one. Now, they are doing it right and with almost no learning curve.

anyway, maybe ill buy one of those amps and see how it matches up to the DD-1. Looks cool actually.

Steve, I have a question that I've heard a lot of debate around. I just bought a Pioneer AVH 8400BH, and was wondering if I had to turn the subwoofer level up to the max which is +6 to get the entire 4v output? What are your thoughts?

Subbed to this thread for all the knowledge being dropped.
