Some possible progress.

I had the HU out of the car and turned on my amps with my manual switch.

The alternator whine got much worse, probly due to losing the termination of the HU.

So then I removed the RCAs from the Punch200 inputs.

BOOM, totally silent.....

I think I found where the noise is entering the system, the RCAs.

Now to try a couple things and see if I can eliminate it with improved grounding or different cables.

LOL, It is indeed!

I should just quit trying different cables and buy some cheapos from Walmart....

I bet that'd fix it.........FML

  • 3 weeks later...

If you follow this build then you've seen that I've had the trunk torn apart many times.

I got really tired of shoving my RadaFlex 2/0 cable into my DC5K terminals time and time again...

With all the fab work I've done, its necessary to install and remove this amp at least a dozen times.

My power cables to the amp are relatively short between my fuse panel and my amp, plus they are crammed between some tight panels.

So its rather difficult to get the wire positioned correctly and inserted into the amp terminals.

I prefer the wire contact of bare wire in an amp's terminals but for ease of install I was intrigued by the 1/0 to 1/0 "reducers" that Cody (CJ18) was advertizing lately.

I decided that the ease of install and clean look was well worth it so I put in my order.

Before I get to the pics, I'd like to comment about the cuostmer service of droppinhzcaraudio.com.

I placed my order on a Weds night. Seriously within 15mins I got a reply from Cody saying my order was ready for shipping and got a tracking number... :o

My order arrived on Saturday. GREAT communication! I'll definitely be dealing with Cody again. :good:

Here's the frayed wire that started the idea

The reducers or adapters as they could be called

Installed

If you're going to install your equipment once and that's it then you're fine.

If you need to move things around a bit then I HIGHLY recommend these. The cost is WELL worth it. I usually hassle with the cables for 20mins to get them twisted just right to make sure no strands are protruding from the terminals.

With these................a few seconds and BOOM, DONE!

Also spent a good amount of time tearing apart panels in the trunk to re-route my highs RCA's and I think I got rid of my alternator whine.............

Just moved the RCA's further from the power wires. Somehow they must have been leaking noise to the RCA's regardless of RCA type.

Its a faint noise anyway and I tend to have a bit of engine noise in the car anyway, given the car, so I'll give it a week and make sure.
