Congratulations on SOTM bro good to see your awesome work getting recognized! I can't wait to hear and see it in person!

And hella sweet CT prize package! I love my CT amp and can't wait to buy another

Man, sorry to hear about the compressor. But I'll tell you from experience, you're gonna be sooooo much happier with the bigger one. I DO NOT regret spending the money on mine. Mine is a 30gallon, I think, and it's sooo much better. Quieter, lasts longer, does the work big time! Sanders, my air sawzall and my impact gun are so much happier now.

Can't wait to see more buddy!

Thanks Man. Yeah, hopefully I can get some changes done quickly and get it ready for some demos.

No kidding...that prize was insane :D

Ohhh I don't regret it one bit. I wanted a bigger one a long time ago but never got one due to my tiny garage but I had intentions of upgrading.

This incident just gave me a kick start, so I said what the hell. I actually wanted an even larger one, similar to yours but the deal on this one and my limited space made this one too tempting.

Yeah, I love it. Much more capacity to run tools constantly. :good:

Thank you Sir! I'm not sure its sunk in yet..... :o

More broken tool news...........

2ndrivettoolbroken_zpsca4c0261.jpg

Apparently these Rivet Nut Tools don't like my M6 inserts. This is now the second one to go down on me.

Looks like the main shaft just snapped. Couldn't take the tension.

Looked around and couldn't find much of a better one so I reordered another of the same. You can buy a bunch of different fittings for these but not the main shaft.

<_<

More fun news......

I played around with my new SuperCaps :D

Shout out to Bump4life :drinks:

After chatting with him, I pulled the trigger and bought a bank. After test fitting my first bank, it looks like I can fit a lot more then I was previsouly thinking! :woot:

Anybody unaware of supercaps, here's a size comparison:

788-capsize_zps4d7a3bb1.jpg

784-capcharge_zpsdd39082e.jpg

Tried to charge them up slowly as I would assume they'd spark pretty massively if I just jumped them on a battery.

I ran my little 13.8V power supply on the caps through a 16ohm current limiting power resistor.

Well, the voltage went up...by about 1mV per second... :o

The power supply can provide 5A but when I bypassed the resistor, the supply maxed out at about 15A and was making a lot of whining noises... :o

So I left the resistor in place and let it sit for a few hours. Made it up to 8.5V before I had to shut it off as I didn't want this thing charging overnight without me watching it.

I was curious about the leakage current draining the caps, which is a small drawback to these larger caps but after sitting for a good week or two, they're still around 8V. :D

So I have a nice pocket under my box that will fit this first bank of caps perfectly.

787-capplace_zpsb1529a18.jpg

To put them down there, they'll need an enclosure so the leads and buss bars don't short on anything.

So I did some quick measurements and cut out some 1/4" MDF panels.

785-capholder1_zpsbffe007f.jpg

Some CA glue and 5mins later:

786-capholder2_zps753e8bd4.jpg

Now just to figure out a way to secure the enclosure to the sub box. Hmmm.

In doing some further research on implementing more supercap banks, it looks like a couple more banks will fit here, where my Fosgate P200 was.

Duuuuuude.....(jaw on the floor)(drool) that looks awesome! Cant wait to see the 9k nursing on those titties lol! I hope this makes your electrical up to par for what it needs..Hell if I know but I'm tuned in :D

Funny how the people who have a louder system than you will usually give you a compliment about your setup because they know how much blood, sweat, time, and money you put into it. The people who criticize or try and one up you....have a p.o.s to no system at all and will tell you all about this "other" guys system! Saddley I'm sure if I meet this "other" guy...he will probably tell me he thinks your just as annoying as I think you are!

I'm not compensating, just proud of fabricating!

i love how small they are. until you get them you really dont know how much you can cram in there. they fit pretty well in a lot of places.

glad you like them :) nice touch using the active balancing circuits. im sure they will never kick on but it is better to be safe than sorry.

in for videos and voltage drop tests!!

Haha...The 9K is a thirsty beast...might need more titties. ;)

This should be a fun test though.

:good:

get rid of your rear batteries if you have any. and add caps there.

That would definitely make room for more caps. Maybe four more banks which could give me a total of 7 banks. :o

Whoa...that'd be awesome. I'd be scared to lose all my batteries though.

You ever accidentally leave something on in your car and drain the caps?

If so, how do you charge such a capacity? Large current controlled battery charger?

A dead battery will spark with jumper cables, but a MASSIVE cap bank, I would think, could throw a HUGE arc when connecting a large current source.....

Yeah I was surprised just how well they would fit. Plus you can reconfigure them, like a puzzle, to fit in different areas.

I don't have a lot of banks that can be paralleled at each node, like yours, so I figured the balancing circuits would be helpful.

Ohh yeah, I'll for sure make some videos on the benefits of the caps. :drinks:
