Okay, I Know there may not be a whole lot of engine experts on here, but since google isn't helping me at this point, I'll just give it a shot.

So my question is: when putting in an aftermarket cam, do you have to match certain rocker arms/valve springs? If so how do you which ones to use?

So you're just replacing the stock cam with an aftermarket cam? Just a direct cam swap, correct? If you're reusing the same springs/rockers, I recommend keeping them together. If using aftermarket springs/rockers, it doesn't really matter.

If I didn't make that clear enough, lol, just keep the intake springs with the intake rockers, and the exhaust springs with the exhaust rockers, and label them according to the cylinder it came off of.

you can also contact companies like Compcams or Cranecams and let them know what motor you have. They would be able let you and recommend a cam. What vehicle are you looking to replace the cam in?

prboboly would have to make sure the engine is at tdc when you install it, and the other standard stuff like lubing it and whatnot, and if the springs and whatnot are stock you may have to replace them to handle the more extreme liff

The only reason I say to put them in the same spot is because, if you're not resurfacing your heads or cleaning/replacing your valve stems/guides, the spring/rocker combo might not work as efficiently due to the fact that over the course of the years, that certain valve has been operating at the certain pressure allowed by the spring/rocker.... If you were to get a spring compressor and the compression tester and measure the compression tolerance of the springs individually, you'd notice a difference in compression rates.

That's just my way of doing things though, better safe than sorry. Take off, label, put back on. Easy breezy.

Ah, I see...valves were cleaned, valve stems & guides were replaced 5 months ago. Heads were resurfaced this week since a gasket blew last week.
