Some subs with small coils can smell a bit but it shouldnt smell more than taking a piece of copper wire and warming it up with a torch and letting it cool off. If any speaker gets warm you are 100% clipping it and will blacken that coil if you keep it up. Ive noticed with the clip light on my dc 5k (different than yours but still hear me out) are not accurate that well. By the time they come on its already too late. I would play a 0 or -5db tone at 40Hz with the lowpass and infrasonic (some companies call it subsonic) to off and turn the remote knob all the way up then turn the gain down until the clip light turns off on the remote knob, THEN turn the gain back a little more, almost like turn it back to the thickness of a flat head screwdriver tip. That is usually pretty close to perfect for them from what ive played with.

I burnt the tinsel leads on my SMD 18 from clipping so i learned fast how to keep an eye on it all and now that i have the smd vu din's i can do that for sure.

My comment was joke, anyway the clipping indicator on the remote gain knob is accurate, if it is on solid it is clipping, if it is blinking then it is just a soft clip, not harming anything.

there is warm, and there is hot, and there is FUCK this will burn me hot. if you can smell it turn it down, if the dustcap is warm, no biggie, subs get warm from time to time when they get going. If the sub is new, on low notes you can usually smell the glue and what not. Too much power and getting warm/hot it one thing, but if you used the DD-1 right (setting it with -5db or 0db on the bass amp, and checking HU distortion point) you should not have ANY issues listening to almost any song full tilt.

all i have is a 99 civic with a DD2515 on a AQ1200d.. electrical is just the big 3 under the hood, my gain is half, and my LPF is just bellow half, the bass boost isnt on and the subsonic is 3/4...

this doesnt tell us anything.

most amps have different SS ranges, gain ranges, and lpf ranges. we need a more specific Hz/ voltage. And gain relates only to the HU, someone with 6v on the gain and someone else having 3v on the gain could get the same power from the same amp as each other due to signal voltage from the HU being different.

if you dont have a DD-1, a DMM is your friend here for checking what your gain or output voltage really is.

the dd1 and my gain knob on both of my aq3500d.1s match up perfectly when I was using the test tones I tune it with the -5db and on the almost gain part I put in where it a soft clip for burps, and I also have that same headunit the pioneer avh 3200dvd volume 37 is the max clean signal I usually keep it 35 since that an easy number to remember and my sub is on max on the headunit I dont remember what is it tho off hand
