Joe X
Any particular reason you want sealed? As in you're limited in space or something along those lines? It has an EBP of 58 so it could be used on sealed, and Alpine in fact gives a spec for sealed, and that is 0.78 cubic feet of net internal volume. No one of the few that have tried (to my knowledge) has liked the results. You could be the first one though.. Random fact, that was your 1,337th post. Right, so OP don't be discouraged to try it, you can always go ported later.
kingleo
I think the sealed specs are 1.00-1.5. They will slam ported though. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/77708-2002-millenia-system-re-build/page__view__findpost__p__1070977__hl__%2Bmazda+%2Bmillenia__fromsearch__1 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110130-2000-acura-integra-gs-4-door/page__view__findpost__p__1536749__hl__%2Bmazda+%2Bmillenia__fromsearch__1
logspace
I still have my stock headunit, tweeters, 4 6.5's and 2 6x9's. Its the bose system in 2005 Altima. Pretty good quality and loud enough for me, but lacking some bass. If I put the subs in a ported box, I know the bass will drown out the mids and highs. So I'm not looking for a whole lot of output. I put them in my friends ported box and they slammed hard. My friend let me use his old Sony Xplod 12" in a sealed box, and it was almost loud enough. So I'm thinking that 2 type R's sealed should be plenty loud, and hopefully decent SQ. I listen to a lot of fast paced music that my friends ported box has a hard time responding fast enough to hit all the notes, and they blur together.. Tarball
Bandpass responds really well when tuned properly and has increased output over sealed. Depend on the box you are using, if the box keeps group delay low it will keep up and it wont take over mods and highs if your gain is set right. The unquestionable advantage of sealed is a small box.
Joe X
Really high end speakers costing thousands of dollars use ported box designs.
logspace
I know ported enclosures are very good. But I am building a sealed box. I have plenty of material to build a ported box if I am unhappy with the sound. My main question is what would be the ideal sealed box volume for Type R's. Joe X
1-1.2 cubes net will do.
logspace
Ah ok thanks. Are there any good schematics for a ported box for these subs. And what would a good tuning be? somewhere around 32-35 hz? I've heard a little about T-line designs, but that would probably be too big for my trunk. Joe X
For a ported box not to sound like "ported" it needs to be tight like 1.6 cubes @ 32Hz would work, I can provide a cutsheet if you need or you can make your own with the Torres calculator.
